Sig 226r
I just jailed a,226r tonight. I was never a fan of sigs.
A few months ago I bought a TTT it's great. Now I have been in the market for a glock 32 or 34 ot 35 I have been wanting to do a 9mm conversion. Now I can buy a .357 sig slide and barrel. My question is should I keep the 226 or sell it and look for a 32 or 35 glock? This 226 was a good deal. I just am not sure if this is the gun for me. It's nice but why is this gun better than a glock. This seems to be a bit high in maintenance compared to a glock. I love my 1911s I have a lcp I am looking to round out my collection . |

This is a Ford/Chevy/Dodge thing.
or if you're under 30, Honda/Toyota/Nissan They are all awesome platforms worthy of respect. They all have pluses and minuses. Enjoy shooting them all and be safe. Or....... Want to be a one gun guy? Read the internet, pick a side, and be snarky. Whatever. |

It's only a better gun than glock if you can shoot it consistently better than a glock.
I can shoot Sig's better than I can shoot glocks, that's why I own sig's. Glocks are great but it is ashame I can't hit the broad side of the barn with them. I have a tough time with the trigger and the grip angle. Only you know what works for you. |

Easiest way to do this is take the Sig to the range, rent a glock, and shoot them both. See which one you like better and are most efficient with. Also you have to factor in the two different trigger systems. Consistency is key here.
Don't know where you got that high maintenance bit from.. |

My first pistol was a glock 17. After my first 1911 I sold it.
I am on my 5 and 6 th 1911. The TTT now I have a colt comander. I have been wanting a glock again. The sig fell in to my lap. From what I read sig needs lots of lube. If they run dry they start to get excessive frame ware. I don't hear about people using the warranty. I want to void the crap out of this warranty if I keep it. Srt kit and polish the internals. Fde finish or od green. I do like the grip better than the glock It seems like the sig is more like a bmw and the glock is like a Honda. I'm more of a 1911 guy. |

In terms of maintenance you do this...
https://grayguns.com/lubrication-of-...r-pistol-rails Afterward there is nothing more that you have to do different than any other guns. |

I shot my glock much better than I did my sig. The sig was undeniably on a different level than the glock in terms of quality and craftsmanship, but the paper target couldn't tell. OP, it's really just personal preference and up to you which one you want. They are not really "high maintenance", they just require a little more lube. I feel like grease is the best for sigs. I say keep the sig and buy the glock as well if this is your only P-Series sig. You could also send it to grayguns

Xsefan, I'll need to summarize your post a bit.
You bought a P226R, in an unknown caliber. You now don't know if this gun is for you. How would anyone on the internet know if this gun is for you, if you don't know? You're (instead) considering a: Glock 32: a compact in .357SIG Glock 34: a longer slide 9mm Glock 35: a longer slide .40 You're also happy with a SIG 1911 "TTT". The SIG P226R is a nice pistol. My personal advice is to wait out the 10 day period; receive your P226R; and go shoot it and try it out. As with different brands & models of guns, each one has its own maintenance and service methods. The P226R isn't particularly difficult or hard, but do stay away from messing with the mag catch if you don't have a need to take it out. If installed incorrectly, it can result in sending the gun back to SIG. If attempting to fix one's own error, it can result in a broken frame, hence a trip back to SIG anyway. I own 1911, Glock, and SIG pistols (among others). They're all good and law enforcement, military, and competitors have relied on these brands for decades. Just plan to buy your next firearm 31 days after the prior purchase (unless it was a private party transaction) and keep adding to your inventory. If later you really don't like any specific firearm, by all means sell it, but don't worry about it before even taking possession of it.

The sig is 9mm.
What's the problem with the mag catch? Will it need to be remover for a SRT kit? I have had some good information from you all. I know I'm being a bit vague. I just don't know anything about the sig 226. I have had some coworkers tell me to shoot it then I'll want to keep it. From what I under stand. Sig is not helpfull with any modification done by the end user. |

No need to remove it when installing SRT because that area is not affected by it.

There isn't a problem, if you know what your doing. Many people try to reverse the mag catch and end up cracking or breaking the frame, more often than not because they do not have the proper tool to do the job.

Unless you mean the magazine disconnect which is a whole different thing; a minute is all you need to remove it. Maybe 2 just to reinstall it.

Not necessarily so. Since I am a left handed I don't have to worry about my high grip accidentally pressing on the slide release, and causing the slide to ride back home on the last shot.

What he means is that the controls are right hand oriented. Lefties can shoot them fine, but need to use unorthodox methods to handle the controls.

I have been told by 20 people not to make a decision untill I shoot it. I would like to customize it a bit. I am right handed I did just score a bunch of expensive junk. I found 2 15 round mags and one that is about 3 inches longer witg no capacity on the back. Houge rubber grips and 4 boxes of plus p plus 9mm ammo! Now I have a few mags and better grips.
Not to worry i will block the mags when I can no long renew my high capacity magazine license. Any recommendations for modification other than the SRT and a polish of internal contact points? |

I have it now! I am going to remove the magazine disconnector tonight. I don't feel that is a safety feature of any gun.
Has anyone experienced reliability issues after doing this modification? Plus will I need anything besides grip screws to install houge rubber grips? They were used so I didn't get the screws Last edited by xsefan; 08-10-2021 at 2:30 PM.. |
