Default What's with the SIG P239

I was at my LGS the other day and they had a consignment 239.

Low rounds
Night sights
SIG SRT installed
Original case and all paperwork
4 factory mags
Original SIG grips plus aftermarket ones

Seller was asking $1k. Does that sound like a decent deal? It seems the gun is no longer manufactured, and the retail for the few new ones I found ranged from $700 - $900.

No longer manufactured, mags are hard to come by, SRT Kit was specific to the firearm but you can adapt the 229/226 to work. Now that it’s gone, people are asking for more.

Look for one on gunbroker. Some real nice ones have come up that were below $500 before fees.

Mags are hard to come by as well as parts. The new 225-a1 mags will fit but will protrude because of the baseplates.

too rich for me! They used to be $700 in cali. Unless its for carry, I'd get a P226 Mk25 for that much. cali model or not! 229 would be a good middle ground of the 239 and 226 but doesn't come with MK25 spec frame and guts.

Not a very good deal. Maybe $750-800 for the package.

They’re awesome guns, but $1k is WAY too much! I sold mine for $750 a couple months ago with 4 mags, SRT, and extra wood grips. Only reason I sold it was freedom week. Freedom week changed my opinion on carry guns. With a capacity of only 8 rounds in a rather large gun, the 239 just couldn’t fit the carry bill anymore. It’s roughly the same size as my Sig P320 XCompact that holds 15 rounds and can even accept my 21 round P320 mags that I carry for back up.

Sure it can be used as a range gun, as it spots very nice, but I have others that fill that void.

My local LGS has like three .40SW P239s on consignment around $500 - but the 9mm definitely go for more money.

I'm a fan of my P239. So much so, that I'm selling the predecessor P225.

As stated above, mags are difficult to come by and the prices are going up. I paid quite a bit for the 10 rounders and that was before they were DCed. The SRT was also unique from the others which also makes it scarce.

$1k still seems like too much, but like my dad always said, It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

It’s a great little gun! I have one with the SRT, wood grips and a handful of magazines. I wouldn’t let it go in the PRK for less than that!

Free state where there are lots of options in small 9mm guns - different story.

I love my Sig P239. PPT'd a used one off a fellow Calgunner for around $700.

Holds less rounds than my tiny Sig P365, but it feels like a full size gun in your hand that still carries very easily. Shoots great.

I bought extra mags off eBay around a year ago and weren't too expensive.

I've been carrying mine all day, again, In my appendix IWB by Cottonmouth Concealment. Out running errands etc and no issues. It carries like a small gun and shoots like a big gun. Less recoil perceived than my wifes g19 with a bit more "flip" if you don't hold it properly. Probably my favorite summer carry gun. If I was buying a gun to shoot and maybe home defense I would buy another P226 or something such as that.

Love mine, it used to be considered a small 9mm. Not too much bigger than what used to be considered small 380s. Now 380s are the size of 32s and 25s, and 9mms are also much smaller. Fits my wife's tiny hands and my large hands well enough. You can find new mags for the 9mm online still.

probably justifying it no longer in production?

wife has two and i have one in .40. great gun to carry if it's allowed where you live. probably the smallest i'd carry. comfortable, small enough to handle and conceal with tame recoil.

Another big advantage of the P239, is that it fits a woman's hands. Some of the double stack 9 mm handguns have grips too big for a woman's hands.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll be going to the LGS this weekend. If it's still there I might make an offer. I did see in searching everywhere that the 9mm mags are like unicorns - almost noone has them, and the few that do are asking big $$ for them. It did seem like there was way more availability of the 357 and 40 cal models too.

I got some 9mm mags last spring on eBay for about $40 each. About average for Sig mags. They are out there.

They have a cult following. People pay beaucoup money for them in CA. Used, its a $400 gun. Wont do anything a lowly Shield cant do. You can pick up a used shield for $250-$300.

Personally, I love the shield even though it has a "horrible" trigger. However, the P365 blows away all the competition including the G43. I really liked shooting the P365. Its in a class all by itself. Still wouldnt pay more than $500 for one, even in CA.

Default Well, it's apparently been sold

I popped in yesterday and it was gone, so it must have been providence. They had 2 Beretta 92FS one for 600 with 5 mags, the other for 560 with 1 mag, target rear sight, and hogue grips. The seller of the 1st one wouldn't take the $500 offered for it, so I guess I don't need that gun either.

Truth be told, I should probably shoot the last 2 guns I bought first before I go buy another one.

Just wait a bit. The economy might be slowing down and people will be liquidating toys they dont really need. I've already noticed a lot of great deals on Armslist and Calguns marketplace in the last few months. Used gun prices at the LGS havent come down yet. But they will if the economy slows and people start saving instead of buying stuff. Also the next gun law in the pipeline is limiting all gun sales to one per month including PPTs. So that should keep a lot of inventory on the shelves since people wont be able to buy as many guns as they used to.

I looked hard at the p239 before I bought a G43. The p239 was discontinued for a reason.

When/if I replace the G43, it will likely be with a P365.

It's combination of size and capacity is hard to beat.

OP, spend a little more and get a P365 instead...

I went the other direction, selling the G43 and keeping the P239.
The G43 is an excellent carry, but the P239 is a lifer in my book, especially with the SRT trigger.

The P365 is a keeper. The trigger is superb.

There's a like new, unfired P239 in .357 on consignment at the Shootist in Murrieta. $650 IIRC.
