Just finished this up.

High cut trigger guard, sub 2 lb trigger, dawson ice magwell and oversized mag release, FO front sight and massive surgery to add a Bomar rear sight.

Excellent work, Brett. The customer will surely be happy.

Since you said you don't mind other people posting in your thread, and because I didn't want to start a new one (not sure if I had a Chen Gen 2 magwell thread started), here is a blended Gen 2 magwell.

Needless to say I am loving it.

Since I don't have a media cabinet at my disposal I decided to polish it up (600 grit) to see the surface shape better. But the reflections get in the way of picture taking...

In any case, if you haven't already, try and get your hands on one of these Gen 2 magwells. The throat on this thing is impressive.

That turned out great. Iíve had a couple requests for the Chen magwell but no ones followed through yet.

This Bar Sto was brought into the shop in desperate need of trigger work. It came from Irv with an excellent 2lb trigger job but after several thousand rounds it needed a complete trigger job over haul.

So off to work I go.

Fitting a Beavertail on a mil spec frame.
Working the tangs on the frame until the Beavertail fits the frame with the thumb safety installed.

Tangs are fitted to the beaver tail. Just need to blend it to make the lines flow.

All blended. Nothing left now by final detail Work.

Great job on the beavertail.
I see many (if not all) smiths blend the beavertail in the outward position. When depressed, can you feel the bottom of the beavertail edges at the tangs? I don't have one blended like that to check it myself.

MV, my first build, and my Chuck Rogers' build are blended like that, with the upper bottom edges of the beavertail/tang blended at the outward position. I don't feel any "edges" at all during shooting or otherwise, and it looks better (IMO) when the pistol is in its "show and tell" position.

I️ blend the outward half passed the pin in the non depressed position and the bottom half inside the pin area in the depressed position so you donít feel anything even when trying to feel for it. For the reason you stated.

My guns brand new, why would it need a reliability package? This gun had a feed ramp that measured .343Ē. It should be .400Ē. Also the chamber was under cut so rounds were tight and didnít want to extract. Must be a bad brand, right? It isnít. When tooling is used to mass produce product the tooling wears down and becomes undersized. This is common to nearly every gun I do reliability packages on. The ramp being too short effects reliable feeding and the tight chamber effects extraction. So time to correct both.

After the ramp was cut, barrel reamed and the throat cut to align with the ramp properly.

Nothing all that exciting. Just machining the slide for a Novak front sight to go with the rear adjustable Novak sight above.

This is zoomed in 2 power. This gun is slated for quite a bit or Work so the final touch ups and details will all be done before itís re blued.

Looks great. and those serrations rock.

However, the MSH pin and grip panel look odd to me. Since the pin is showing, would it be better to do a slight radius cut in the grip to fully expose the pin?

I think it will look good relieved just like the magazine release relief cut.

And did the owner not ask for better sights? I would have expected that to also be on the list (along side beavertail) basically getting rid of mil spec features. I guess by better sights I mean having more options if the slide is cut for Novak for example.

Like all my pics they are usually a work in progress. Notice there is no hammer currently. This is just were I left off for the evening.

I have no idea if the customer will be replacing the grips or not so i lopped off the ends and contoured them on the belt sander before wrapping it up for dinner. Tomorrow they will have more attention to detail done to them.

As for the sights the customer did not ask for them to be changed so they wonít be. I believe heís having what Work that fits in his budget done now with the intent of having more work done later.

The list of Work this gun is having done is bobtail, Beavertail, reliability package and trigger job with upgraded internals.

On to working the reliability package. The breach face was undersized. Not all that uncommon so time to fix that.

Also for Mosin
