But back on topic: I don't consider myself Mexican, nor do my parents. We have no Mexican pride. Come to think of it, my grandparents didn't either. They learned English and came here legally. Never once saw them display a Mexican flag. All my aunts and uncles knew Spanish but they were forbidden from speaking it in the house once they went to school.

Grandparents on my dad's side were in Texas, so they had already been here longer I think. While also speaking Spanish, they too were fluent English speakers with no 'Mexican' pride. Must have been a different era.
In regards to food, I make a distinction between American and Mexican.

Mexican is Chile Colorado (beef) and Chile Verde (pork), and neither one ever has beans in it.

American is Chili, and I make it with a mixture of red kidney beans and pinto beans. And when I make chili, the beans are de la hoya, the way it should be. Canned beans is blasphemy.

Well here's my flag, literally.

I'm the one holding it on the right, in the black Glock shirt. This was shot at the Eagles Nest at Angeles on 9/15/01.

I ain't offended.

And I'll bet the mods wouldn't mind it, but that don't mean they're gonna let that rendition of Old Glory fly, either.

Might be best to switch it out before someone with more delicate sensibilities than me spoils the party.

I've wondered why, if I take a firearm to a gunsmith for service, the gunsmith is required to fill out a Federal form which asks me if I'm Hispanic?
NOT which race, only if I'm Hispanic.
I think that's racist. None of Hispanic community leaders I've spoken with give a rip.
What say you?
This is a Federal form, btw.

Being half, I have to choose Hispanic or Not Hispanic, I won't choose, eff em. Most Mexicans I know do not id as "hispanic" or "latino", they're Mexican. The only people who I think care are liberals. Edit: since people are putting up locations, ma is from Durango.

Born and raised in Boyle Heights then moved to Stockton. In NorCal I spent every chance I had fishing and hunting, camping and boating.

I'm damn proud to be who I am but let there be no doubt, I bleed red, white, and blue.

Turning Mex-i-can
I think I'm turning Mex-i-can

- El Vapores

Born in El Lay and have lived here my whole life save for one year in Oregon as a boy and another year just on the other side of the Golden Gate. I still love it here. I am learning Spanish by osmosis. I'm an old gringo but people keep asking me if I'm messican 'cause of what I like to eat: fresh corn tortillas, carne, frijoles, onion, poquito cilantro, muchas avocado por favor. Chilaquiles, tamales, enchiladas too. I could eat it all 24/7. My Latino colleagues at work are always asking me, "Are you sure you're not Mexican?"

Among my several rifles is a Winchester .30-30 from 1922... who knows where this has been... might've lived for 60 or 70 years in Juarez for all I know. I love all my rifles but this one is quite special.
