Default What is your Everyday Carry Knife (EDK)

Looking for something like this "DECADENCE" AO RESCUE FOLDING KNIFE w/ LED FLASHLIGHT & FIRE STARTER

I want it to have a seat belt cutter, glass break, flip open and I know I don't need this but a fire starter built in. The knife linked above has all of that, but not sure on the grip. Still searching for some on amazon now.

What do knife or knives do you carry everyday?

I alternate between 2 a benchmade folder that is not this one, but similar to:

http://www.amazon.com/Benchmade-McHe...nchmade+folder

And a Spyderco Police model with half serrated, half straight blade:

http://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-C07PS...pyderco+police

Either of these will cut a seatbelt no problem, carry a flashlight & glass break & fire starter separately.

That might be a decent tool to stash in your glove box, but it's not what I look for in an everyday carry knife. I have a little tool that I keep in my glove box that is a combo tire gauge, glass break, seat belt cutter, & siren. I would recommend get a good quality folding knife and a tool like that for each vehicle.

I've been carrying one of these for about a year and a half now. It's a Kershaw Shallot.

I love it so much I would prolly buy another if this one came up missing (which will never happen b/c it doesn't leave my pocket!).

It's super thin b/c it uses a frame lock instead of a liner lock. And I prefer knives with a flipper. So this fits the bill perfectly.

That's a pretty cheap knife. That is not a good thing.

I carry the same stainless knife Kaligarian pointed out.

Mine cost a bit more but I didnt shop around much.

Ken Onion Shallot made by Kershaw. Assisted opening.

It's my EDC and I abuse the heck out of it for work. Cutting cardboard, opening boxes/packaging, strip electrical wire, use it as a screw driver, a prybar... and it's a quality product.

My last knife was a gerber. I'd never buy one again. The steel was worthless.

Knife before that was spyderco which is a good knife too- but not as cool as the assisted opening.

Question 1...
I would start looking at emt/ems knives. Another option is a multi-tool. Check out the SOG knife line. The Escape is one example you may like.
Question 2...
I edc a spyderco tenacious in black.

Benchmade Triage - the Axis lock sold me - one handed open and close safely. Everything but the firestarter.

Kershaw Clash, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I usually lose them after a year or two so I stick with stuff under $25. Although I've had this one for almost 4 years now.

Please reconsider buying the knife in the link. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but the knife in the link is a piece of garbage and quite overpriced. I seriously would not even take that knife for free.

If you wan't a knife in that price range then Kershaw is probably your best bet.

99% of the time if a knife has a light, bottle opener, glass breaker, ect, ect..... its probably very low quality.

If you wan't something with a lot of features minus the light then either look into multitools (brand name) or Swiss Army Knives (real Victorinox). I am pretty well versed in all of them so if you decide to go that route I would be more than happy to help.

If you let me know your exact needs for the knife I could help you much better.

I have more than a handful of folding knives that I purchased with the idea of being my dedicated EDC, but I always seem to snatch up this little, inexpensive Kershaw-1660OL as i'm leaving the house. It's a perfect size EDC for my taste. It's very slim, lightweight, extremely sharp and doesn't hinder your movement / comfort at all. I have knives that cost 10x more than this Kershaw, but I still haven't found a more comfortable blade that I would wear everyday, regardless of what i'm wearing, or what i'm doing. Worth checking out at:

I know it's garbage, which is why I said I am looking for something like it and still shopping. The Kershaw does look promising though. Technically I just need it to cut, but I want a separate seat belt cutter.

Great. A separate seat belt cutter can be had no problem.

So are you planning on carrying the knife everyday? If it does not HAVE to be a folder I would suggest a Swiss Army Knife. What is your intended uses for it? Do you just wan't a blade or were you looking for it to perform other tasks? Is it just for EDC or are you looking for it to perform EDC and possible outdoor tasks like camping or fishing? What's your price range? Sorry for all the questions, but it's necessary to get a sense of what will fit you best.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want a seatbelt cutter? If you insist on a seatbelt cutter get the Benchmade triage.

I like Kershaws. I have a bunch of them. The Ken Onions are my favorite.
I have a Benchmade, CRKT, Gerber, Buck, I rotate through them.

I carry a Sog Trident (Satin, clip point, straight edge). For the price I couldn't beat it, that is the price I paid, new in the packaging, of $8 and some change. It does take a very good edge (I won't pretend any EDC knife actually gets a shaving edge...trust me, I shave with a straight razor...you wouldn't want an edge that fine on an EDC knife)

Edge retention is good, but there are better out there. Aus-8 is similiar to 440b iirc. SOG's heat treatment is better (with this steel) that some of the other knives in AUS-8, e.g. from Benchmade or CRKT (the Benchmades with AUS 8 are the Taiwanese ones, not the high quality ones)

BTW, you can get that gimmicky knife much cheaper, http://www.wildbillwholesale.com/ycs9045bk.html

Wartech is made by Frost Cutlery. They do have a limited lifetime warranty. They aren't that forthcoming on the steel they use, other than that it is either 420 or 440 for "most" of their knives. 440 a is like aus 6, 440 b like aus 8, 440 c like aus 10. Heat treatment would be important. 420 is used in cheapo knives, usually (maybe 420 is 420HC, then that would be similar to Buck Knives), but probably the 420 is for their kitchen knives (it polishes better, but less edge retention)

But I did some digging. This particular knife, is their "surgical steel" It is 1065. It will sharpen nicely, but the blade will wear down fact and it is not stainless. Cleaning and protection would be a must. Bad for a bug out bag, car back up.

I also found a review (which I wish I found first, it discovered the steel too)

http://www.thebugoutbagguide.com/201...-knife-review/

It sounds like it is good....for its price range. I would prefer, for EDC, a blade a little more resistant to corrosion. That is me

Anything with a flipper, I really don't like thumb-studs.

This is the one I decided on, on the pretty-cheap:

Gerber Mini Swagger:

http://www.gerbergear.com/Tactical/K...nife_31-000593

Nice knife imho for only $27, feels solid, 2.8" blade, the legal limit in the City of L.A. is 2.75" I think, should be close enough to be OK.

Sog Aegis Mini - after looking at several options I think this is the perfect EDC for me.

It is fairly light, but solid, got the right size and is pretty comfortable. I bought it for $35 on sale.

I work in an office environment so it doesn't see much heavy lifting.

I have a couple heavier knives, actually carrying one today, was running out the house and grabbed the wrong one.

I would probably carry the heavier knife if I was outdoors/working in the field most of the time

Kershaw. Good price, can cut through most stuff, and you don't feel bad to treat it like ***** if you have no other choice.

Just one? In each Jacket I have left a Folder. BOB and Go Bags each have a Leatherman and Heavy Duty Folder (Spydercom Miltary, Surefire Crank, Al Mar Sere, etc. Belt Holster is Classic Kershaw 1030 Folder, Pocket Carry is Surefire

Each Truck has at least one Leatherman, each Range Bag has at least one also,

So...not just one everyday carry, multiples at minimum...stashed EVERYWHERE!
