Default Help Wanted monthly Rimfire matches.

Hey all Izzy is stepping down as one of the monthly Rimfire match runners and me and Peterrabbit need your help. If we can get 3-4 of you to run 2 matches a year (they do not have to be consecutive) it would help us out greatly. We have a standard formula on how they are run so its pretty much choose your targets, post how you want it shot, and score the month priors match. Easy as we whatever you thing easy is.
If you want to help and please only if you want to help please reply ... and please don't respond if you can't or wish you could
id just like only people who want to help post a reply.

The only requirement is that you need to be living in CA

rules are simple
we shoot rimfire rifles and pistols from 25 to 100 yards

you choose what targets and how many shots on each target along with the scoring

the shooters will than go to the range any range and shoot, post their scores and thats about it

I can volunteer but 99.9% of the time I'm on an Ipad. I can't post targets so I can say something like, "For the Feb 2014 25-yard irons, use the Dec 2013 target, etc."

I'd have to copy and paste the rules from Izzy's posts to run a monthly match. I can add up the scores and either send them to you or PeteRabbits.

If this will do, either you or Pete can feel free to PM me. However, I don't have the ability to make a sticky for the monthly match or any access to the points database. I'm still not sure how the cumulative scores add up.

Somebody would need to show me how to do that.

I could have sworn we were asked this same thing sometime last summer.

I remember signing up - and I can probably do 1 or 2 between June and August of 2014.

I'm in, just let me know the details.

We need to use targets that are not under copyright laws also, right? No posting a scan of NRA targets for example.

Are we still planning on doing a yearly points total also? If we are maybe one person should handle that while the monthly targets are passed around.

Some info for those of you who are considering volunteering to do this. There are many, many targets in the archives of the previous matches. None are copywrighted so you can freely copy those targets (all are in PDF) and use them for any of the matches. Peterabbits also has a link to an online site where you can produce targets if you like.

For anyone who wants to track the yearly point totals I can email the spreadsheet that I used to you for that purpose. It is fairly straight forward for those that are familiar with using spreadsheets. You could also just do it on paper, not much work involved its just a running total of each shooters score each month. 5 points for 1st, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 2 for 4th, 1 for 5th for each of the targets shot and each shooter gets .5 points for particating in the monthly match.

Just PM your email address to me if you are interested, take a look at the spreadsheet before you decide. "Easy Peezy" (from the caddy in the movie "The Greatest Game Ever Played).

If someone just wants to handle the yearly points thats fine by us

this is a volunteer job so any help would be welcome.

Right now I have the following showing interest:
Lazyme
Cujo <-- if we can work out the whole iPad thing
Paperchasin

more would still be welcome

Since I run my own website, server, etc, in-house - with my own registered domain and ability to create virtual hosts...

...I've been thinking awhile about developing a web based system for:

1. Retrieving raw targets.
2. Posting scored targets and entering scores.
3. Tallying monthly results.
4. Keeping a running tally for a given year.
5. Keeping a running tally across years.

Basically would be a Apache + PHP + MySQL server.

Non-copyright targets would be public readable - for retrieval.

Posting would be password controlled.

Tally would be public readable.

Database schema would include the following:

Rifle - Irons - Open - 25 Yard
Rifle - Irons - Aperture - 25 Yard
Rifle - Irons - Open - Bolt - Mad Minute - 25 Yard
Rifle - Irons - Open - Semi - Mad Minute - 25 Yard
Rifle - Irons - Aperture - Bolt - Mad Minute - 25 Yard
Rifle - Irons - Aperture - Semi - Mad Minute - 25 Yard
Rifle - Irons - Open - Know Your Limits - 25 Yard

That's all way over my head...I'm having trouble picturing your final product.

All that for this little ol' rimfire match? Seems pretty straight forward how it is now, to me at least.

First off, those are the match classes already in use for our monthly rimfire matches - except for one.

So if it doesn't look simple - blame YOURSELVES - not I.

Passing around spreadsheets and pdf's of scores and tallies - without an accidental overwrite is simple?

...bound to fail...

Nice thing about a website version is that the database of score and tallies can be dumped into a Excel import file on the fly. I.e., a backup.

I once wrote an Apache + PHP + MySQL application for transportation purposes...routes, schedules, etc.

Everyone thought it would be too complicated...

...until I demonstrated:

1. One time entry of route, customer and pickup/dropoff data.
2. Automatic creation of Streets and Trips import files every five minutes.
3. Creation of all maps for routes within 15 minutes instead of usual 3-4 hours.
4. Quick "is-like" search function.

Was easy to learn - and folks were blown away by how easy it was to create the half dozen maps necessary for a route - whereas before they were having to enter data twice - and take up to 2 days to approve a contract. We were able to approve contracts within 2 hours as a result.

mrrabbit anything and I mean anything you can do would be welcome
I always thought if we had 4-6 standard monthly templates the matches would be easy to run
that way 2 to 3 times a year you would run into the same monthly match
an organizer then could tweak 1 or 2 of the relays to his or her liking but not have to plan the others
I will PM you later and maybe we can talk

No way we have that many classes. Splitting it all into classes of open/aperture/scope and then more categories with bolt/auto and so on, and so on is not how things are split up at the moment. We had 9 classes until we added the Rifle (blade) category making the new total 12 with the occasional fun target thrown in. You are taking a simple online event and over thinking it...58 match classes is not necessary.

Also, I don't believe most of us speak the language you are speaking. Apache, PHP, MySQL...no clue, might as well speak Chinese to me. Once again, I am having trouble envisioning your final product. Do you have an example of the type of system you are envisioning? A few snap shots of pages as examples? Power point? anything to help translate your vision would be a huge help.

Yes we do...

We have rifle - open - aperture - scope - 25, 50, 100 - regular - mad minute - and everyone is free to select know your limits.

We have pistol - open - scope - bench - offhand - 15, 25 - regular - and everyone is free to select mad minute, know your limits and natural body aim.

All I drew up is what we have as a minimum that would need to be ready to print, shoot, score and submit.

I certainly don't have a dog in this fight. In order for me to generate a match for a single month it took me around an hour to edit a previous match post for the month with the previous months winners included, find the targets (all available on Calguns, from saved files on my computer, or the Web), and post the new match announcement. Tracking the yearly totals took about 30 minutes to enter data and 5 minutes or less to post the results.

I provide this info so anyone considering becoming a coordinator has an idea of the time involved on a monthly basis to run the match in its current form, 2-3 hours per month when there were a large number of shooters posting multiple targets. Happy New Year to All.

December...12 match categories.

November...12 match categories plus a few fun ones.

October...12 match categories plus a few fun ones.

The only reason we have 12 matches is because someone (you?) wanted a rifle open sight category that nobody else uses or else we would still have 9. There is only one person complicating things around here.

Totally cleared that up... Once again...screen shots? Examples of the system you are envisioning? Not just a bunch of IT mumbo jumbo? Better yet, Ill let you and usmcchet9296 work out the details, I can tell nothing good is going to come out of this conversation.

I'm going to revive this thread as I'm looking someone to take over for me as of January 1, unless we just want to let the matches die.

Zero response, and only one participant thus far in the current 3 month competition. I think it's safe to say this monthly (or quarterly) match is dead. I won't do a December match, and unless someone steps up to take over, I guess there won't be any more either. Just not enough interest any more I guess.

Yeah sucks but with the drop in centerfire ammo and the less than stellar availability of cheap rimfire ammo this was kinda inevitable.PR you did a great job and who knows maybe we will resurrect the match at a later date. Funny thing is I still shoot rimfire at my monthly 2-gun matches and ironically I am taking my Kimber 82G's out tomorrow because I would like to do some precision shooting.

Sorry to see the demise of the monthly matches.

Hello,

Me and my family would be able to help out and even run a match but i would just need to become more familiar with the process. Feel free to contact me to set something up.
