Default Shotgun Ranges

Does anyone have any recommendations for ranges where you can shoot a shotgun with no restrictions on ammunition? Just bought a Mossberg 930 and want to break it in and also see if it will cycle when using low recoil buckshot or low velocity birdshot. Sac Valley and Cordova appear to only allow shotguns for skeet or trap, which isn't really my thing and is limited to target/birdshot. Most of the indoor ranges are slug only, which defeats the purpose.

I really miss Raahaugees down in SoCal where you could get a private pistol bay and shoot whatever you wanted.

Why not just go up in the national forest for something like that? Just pick up after yourself, too many dirtbags up there ruining it for everyone.

Possibly. I'm a heathen flatlander so it's a drive. Plus, even though I'm a square rule follower, for some reason I attract authority figures, so I'm more comfortable in a range environment. I have been reading up on Candy Rock Quarry, but it's a 2 hour drive for me.

Richmond Rod & Gun Club allows you to fire your shoulder stocked shotgun on it's 25 yard line. There are two target frames on the far right side of the 25 yard line where they allow you to fire Bird shot, buck, or slugs to your heart's content.

Sac Valley will let you shoot shotguns on the 25 yard handgun range. People mostly use it to check the scatter pattern or to practice for home defense. I've never seen them check anybody's shotgun ammo, but if you blow people's hats off, they might get concerned. Ask at the Range Office.

On a range, if you don't want to shoot at clay pigeons or targets, what DO you want to shoot at?

If you are looking for a regulated range, Sac Valley is the place. If you want an un-regulated range, Spenceville may be your ticket. I would recommend a weekday in the am. Reactive targets are always more fun!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up waking up early and making the drive to Oroville weekend before last. Things went pretty well, except for spots of rain here and there.
