Default Self-Defense Ammo for Pistol Caliber Carbines

New video from LuckyGunnerLounge, using everyone's favorite rifle, the Ruger PCC in 9mm.

https://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxcFK3rcqU8

Now this was shot into clear gel ( so take it with a grain of salt ) and it is testing a small selection of rounds ( so take it with a grain of salt ) but it did reinforce some interesting points, like...

a) hollowpoints are designed for a specific application, and to open "normally" in a specific velocity window

b) lightweight for caliber bullets intended for a handgun may see significant velocity increases in a rifle

c) driving hollowpoints "too fast" may result in radical deformation of the bullet

notable that the HSTs could be slowing down before they exit the 16" barrel.
shows why their faster burning loads work well is compact pistols.

My Ruger PCC in 9mm shoots Federal 147 HST's better than any other ammunition I've ever tried. I like it as a companion to my G19 using the same loading, mags, etc.

I'll check velocities with that load using the Carbine vs a number of other weapons with shorter barrels on my next range trip.
I'll also compare the Carbine vs an IMI UZI, a couple of SP 89's, and a 94 Carbine as well.

My two previous 9mm carbines liked 147 grain stuff a lot. I don’t think they gained much velocity, but they weren’t any slower - I think it’s more of a velocity plateau (would need like a 26” barrel to see any significant slow down I’d imagine).

FWIW... here is velocity data from my 16" Colt Pattern PCC.

129 different factory loads chrono'd.

While short distance bullet expansion can be dramatic... I prefer to think about it the other way.. 75-100yd performance will be perfect.
Remember, most 9x19 loads have a trajectory like a 22LR at 100+ yds.. so it will be a 125ish yard max useful round.
