Generally yes. Accuracy is affected when the crown is not perfectly perpendicular to the bore. A gun can still shoot with a hacksawed barrel end, nut it wont be optimal.

Threading is only a means to meet a desired goal. MBs are not required on any gun. Authenticity and originality come into play with our toys though.

Figure out what you would pay to have it done, and I'll put that towards the tools to make it happen.

I'm going to have to say we are at the limit for attendee's. With the amount of "watchers" and now barrel guys I feel nobody will be "without" on what they need/want to get done. But definitely will be a busy party.

If you are interested in doing a particular aspect of AK building, shoot me a PM to see if it is feasible. I'd hate for ANYONE to have to stand around and watch when they need help with gitten 'er done.

Depending on how much gets done and how many need more time, I'll schedule another "mini BP Day" a week to four after this one. Additionally, little things can be done with special arrangements during the week (read: between 9 and 11 am weekdays, some weekends) as needs dictate.

I'd love to come by and help or hang out but, that's the day after SHOT and I'm sure my dogs will be in need of some attention. If you need anything in the way of tools or jigs, let me know and, I can send them with Jeff.

I'm about to place my orders to get a wide variety of dies and TAT's for barrel threading. If you don't see your desired thread dimensions, chime in.

9/16x24
5/8x24
14x1LH
1/2x28

ALSO:
If you wanted to order a few parts from AK-Builder.com with me, order is being placed this Friday. Get me your shopping list and it will be at my place waiting for you at BP or for pick up before.

Roccobro . I don't mind helping out newbies . Tell you the truth I can start a build here at home and get 90% done. I just do not have a blasting cabinet or park set up. I would love to see barrel cutting down / crowning being done. I'm not in a rush to even complete a build but most likely should be done before I get there. Unless Jeff wants to help me with my saiga 12 conversion ill be happy with that lol .

Can an AK barrel be threaded on an assembled rifle or does the barrel have to removed prior to the threading process? I really don't know how this works.

Hey bud, thinking of doing something?

Muzzles can be threaded with the barrel on. Dinzag has some great instructions. Basically, you have a pilot that goes into the bore and the part sticking out is threaded like a bolt. You take a thread cutting Die and thread it onto the pilot (Thread Alignment Tool-TAT for short). This TAT gets the thread cutting started onto the barrel straight. Once cutting is going good, you remove the TAT. Finish up the threads, check and readjust cutter if needed until desired threads are made.

Now remember, the muzzle OD has to be the right dimensions to fit, and to be cut, by the die. If you do not/cannot change the OD of the barrel, your stuck with the common thread size/pitch that coincides with the min and max dimensions the die can cut for the original OD of barrel. Again, Dinzag has some nifty tools to change the OD, but they cost half the price of a decent hobby lathe with buying just two sizes.

WTS- Bring that bad boy! The jig makes it look simple as hell. I'm sure the drilling of rivet holes will be the easy part with it. I've read the hard part is the welds. We'll see what can make the quickest/cleanest work of those.

Unless you are a precision shooter the old fashioned/budget way of crowning is a round headed brass bolt chucked into a hand drill and a little bit of valve grinding paste.

Pushing back my order to Curtis until Monday if anyone else is interested in tagging on. No use placing it before a weekend when it wouldn't ship out.

Default AMD

Got my AMD as well and can't wait to build it. I was going to do a rifle build but whats are the classification differences between a piston and a rifle? Can a pistol have a front grip? Not sure what the legalities are. Thanks fellas and can't wait for the BP

I want to thank all the people who came by today. You guys are an awesome collection of Cal Guns finest. I was tickled at the amount of information, knowledge and assistance that was shared by all. You are all invited back for the next gathering on Feb 19th. I hope to see you again.

If your missing anything (*cough*like some drill press handles*cough*) please post up here or PM me.

If you find something you really don't think you owned before the party I'll help you find the owner.

Those that expressed interest about AR 80% paperweights and a possible Group Buy, please send me a PM and I'll compile a list.

If there is something you'd like to see at the next party (like tools, food or operations) let me know. I have some ideas but I'd REALLY like to hear from the attendee's as to what they will want for next time.

Last I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the service members I was allowed to be around today. I believe there were members from each of the last three of US's conflicts present. Surrounded by so many heroes I wasn't sure how to say "thank you" to each and every one as we did our things. That, and I wouldn't be able do so without getting all sappy. Seriously.

I would also like to thank Roccobro for hosting his fine build party. Roccobo's build party was above and beyond what would go on at a normal build party. From barrels being cut down or barrels being re crowned and re threaded. Advance users may want to get your advanced work done at a build party like this. The party was not to large and plenty of tools from jigs to mills or lathes . If you run out of stuff to do you could always play with the chickens or goats. I really had a great time helping out and building a kit there. If anyone found or mistakenly found a safety selector in there kits please pm me to return it the selector was media blasted Thanks. I will attach pictures tonight of my build to this thread. I am also interested in the AR 80% paperweights and Group Buy. Once again thanks again .

Here She Is What will be next ?

I don't care what you or anyone else says. Your deff not nerd material. Cooler than the average AK junky.

I meant to tell you I'll replace your selector if it doesn't turn up.

Absolutely. I have a SAR1 that needs 14x1LH threading, and a Maadi that needs AR threads....don't ask.

I'll get a 1/2-28, 7.62mm bore TAT then.

I also ask those that had issues with their barreled kits contact the vendor and let them know. If vendors don't know there is issues, they can't fix them.

If they then DO know about them and DON'T fix it, we can spread the word to stay away.

Last kit of the evening needed it's headspace re-set and it's oversized barrel pin over-oversized up!

Many who had the AK Builder Amd 65 kits and Rommy G with US barrels had major head spacing issues. Pay the extra 29 bucks and buy one with the og barrel . AK Builder now has Rommy G in stock for $329 with the og barrels. Price kits just keep jumping in price jump on it wile you can . If you want AMD 65 you aways can make a clone with a Rommy G and no issue to put a extended muzzle break on it .

Good time.
Thanks to our host Mr. Roccobro for his hospitality and congrats to the builders.
Nice group of law abiding folks, I had tons of fun.
