Since I am active Duty Military, we have had 4 plus current to include another state in the last 5 years and it didn't affect the wife. So I don't that would matter. If I don't get a letter today I am thinking about calling Amber?

asap. You don't want to drag this out any longer than necessary.
If you've been following "old bald guy". He was just about ready for the rubber room and a straight jacket when he finally finished the process
Straight jackets cannot hold me; I had my wife handcuff me to a tree in Marin County, where I was tormented by new age hippies chanting rhythmically "Guns are bad, save the Marin County mule deer, and eat more fiber." When the permit finally arrived, she came back and let me go.

Seriously, as WDN41 said, there are variables you can't predict in many of the steps in this process. I got my initial approval very quickly, but stalled out at DOJ for weeks and weeks. No one should count their chickens until the fuzzy little critters come hopping outta that certified envelope. It took me 96 days; my brother got his in half that time (and it would've been even sooner except he waited a few weeks after his final approval to go in and sign/thumb due to his work schedule).

I did my training in the short period between turning in my application and receiving my initial approval. I really recommend getting that piece completed at your earliest opportunity.

Interesting. My initial notification was sent on 6/22 but I haven't received it. Called Amber and she sent a new one. Should have it in my hands tomorrow or the next day.

Anybody else have theirs get lost in the mail?

I know there has been a few posts about the size of the Sac issued CCW. My current wallet will hold a 2 7/8" h x 4" w. What I am wondering is the viewable area. Does anybody have those measurements? I realize if I ever have a situation I will need to pull the card anyway-just curious.

Thanks

Went to my second appointment today. I feel a little relieved now since my journey is ending. Why is it called an interview? The detective that gave me the "interview" just said "well, there are two captains who believe you are good to CCW. There is no reason for me to say anything else." He asked for my certificate of completion, my range qualification with my qualified weapons, for me to self address an envelope, sign the permit, "get my thumb dirty"(as he handed me the ink pad) and my check/money order for $80. The reason why it was 30 minutes from when I left my car and back was because I waited about 10 minutes for someone to come down to escort me up and another 5 minutes to escort me down, then the other 5 minutes was the walk from and to my car . I'm assuming my permit will be in hand in about so from beginning to end is about x 4. By then my CB supertucks should be in.

I got my supertuck today. I took my livescan on the 27th, but I won't be able to take my training till the 23rd-34th.

I felt the same way. After a week I was getting worried that my 30 days were getting close . You'll probably get it late this week or early next week.

I got my approval letter in the mail while I was gone in San Francisco for two weeks. I have no idea which day it came. I would do my training this weekend but I have a camping trip, and I have my son every other weekend so the 23rd is the next available date for me. I've been waiting since January so a few more weeks doesn't mean much at this point.

Well, I was expecting it to come in either saturday or monday but it came in today. Two days from my second appointment date. From start to finish was 1 month and 7 days. My journey is finally over and hopefully this information helps the guys who are waiting for their initial appointments or the guys who are thinking of applying. Thanks CGF. I will be donating as soon as my next check comes in.

One month, seven days? Hell, that ain't no journey, that's a trip to the supermarket;-) Now, 96 days, that was a journey.
But I will congratulate you anyway.

Yeah, I'm just glad that my journey is almost over. Believe it or not, my co-worker was in the same boat. Whenever we'd cross paths it went something like this...
"Did you get the letter yet?"..."Nope, how 'bout you?"..."Nah, maybe next week"

The process can be lengthy.
I set my initial appt. (online system) in early Jan
Initial appt April 14
Final appt June 7
Permit in hand June 28
6 month process and I did the live scan the day after I got my letter and the training within 4 days of my letter. As soon as LIVESCAN came back (about 2 weeks) I got my notice to set my final appt.

Hello all, I started on june 30th, got my approval on the Yesterday july 11th. I did the livescan today, my question is other than the training class is there anything I need to do. The officer that did the scan said that it would only take a few days for the scan to be compleated. I was under the assumption that this was going to take 4 weeks or so. I havent scheduled my class yet but I have put the call in to schedule. Is there anything I am missing?
Thanks for any feed back

Take your class ASAP. You'll probably get your final approval letter from SSD within 10-14 days, but be aware that DOJ delays can slow that down. I got my final approval letter 60 days after I live scanned, and the total process was 96 days from initial application to license-in-hand. Results vary.

There's nothing else for you to do now besides training/qualification. Do NOT make your issuance appointment until you receive your final approval letter from SSD.

Livescan done! The lady who did mine grew up across the street from my current address. Nice lady.

Who's taking what training in the next week or so?

Hurray me!

Timeline was as follows:

Initial Appointment: April 13
Denial Letter: Received April 30th, Dated April 27th
Appeal Filed: May 27th
Appeal Granted: Received June 10th, Dated June 7th
LiveScan Taken: June 10th
LiveScan Cal DOJ: Transmitted electronically June 13th
LiveScan FBI: Transmitted electronically June 15th
CCW Class: Completed June 29th
LiveScan Letter: Posted July 2nd - Received by July 7th (was camping 3rd-7th)
Final Interview: July 12th

There's variation in this process. I waited 5 weeks for DOJ to finish my background check. What slowed it down, according to the DOJ person I talked to, was the fact that I'd never been live-scanned before, plus the fact that I had a couple of very old inked cards in the system from about 25 years ago.

Well what's confusing is when I called the automated system it's like it was never submitted. They didn't have any info.

I just mailed my live scan back two weeks ago. I do have a question for you guys. When I got the initial letter with the live scan request forms there were three. Then the Sheriff deputy took one and the letter said to mail in the third copy so I did. Is the second copy for the ccw class? Or for my records? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid qestion but it's been bugging the heck put of me.

I just got the letter today from the Sheriff saying everything passed. I have training this weekend and I set my issuance appointment for Tuesday.

Got the magic letter in the mail today...and they messed it up! I had two guns listed. Well they took the caliber from one gun, the serial and model from the other gun, condensed them into one! Only have one gun on my permit and that gun doesn't even exist.

I have a feeling that I'm going to have to drive all the way back down there and pay for a modification due to their mistake, but we'll see.

I'm sorry your permit was printed incorrectly. Try not to get discouraged. Let me know if they attempt to charge you for a permit modification fee for their mistake. I'll make a call for you.

It's certainly not for the CCW class.

Ok let me take a step back. The Sheriff's Department Live Scan Tech took one copy and I mailed in one copy. Did I need to send in two copies to the Sheriff's Department then?

I believe one copy is for your records. One to mail in and one for the livescan clerk.

Gotcha. That's a load off my mind. I thought I screwed up with mailing only the one page. Thanks Andy!

I want to get a CCW, but the only reason I can legitimately say is that I want to protect myself and family. Plus I work in security and it would be nice to pad my resume.
