Exclamation So apprently I owe the Marine Corps money...

I had gotten out May 2nd 2013 after 8yrs of active duty service. I get in the mail on April 4, 2014 a statement from DFAS saying that I owe them $524.12 for travel entitlements or nonsettlements of a travel advance that I recieved prior to separtation per travel order #m7000213ctb1myv dated 12/05/2013. When I was taking TAPs class I started the process of requesting travel assistance, but never went thru with it because my wife and I stayed in the local area of South Orange County instead of moving back to Sacramento. We paid the bill, and I recently called IPAC after getting run around from the 18669126488 number that was provided.

The Cpl at IPAC said he didnt know, it might be from the Marine Corps paying me anyways, even though I didnt request it and that I should go to a reservist station and they would help me figure it out....

Anyone else have this kinda crap pulled on you???? I would like some help please. $524.12 can pay some bills....or a new gun...any help would be appreciated.

Can you complete a voucher and settle the debt? I kind of went through the same thing recently. I received a letter from DFAS saying I owed close to $2K for PCS advances. I just filled out their smart voucher online and it settled and I actually made $116. Contact DFAS directly since they sent the letter to you. If you don't settle it they will take it out of your taxes since you aren't collecting a paycheck from the military anymore.

Flashback to 1977.

They couldn't explain it and I paid because I was in the middle of buying a house and didn't want to screw my credit.

I had a problem when I settled with 29 palms, they were ate up and absolutely no help. I had proof, they did not, they lost my paperwork and considered the case closed, owed me over a grand. So I wrote my congressman, they investigated, and in over a month, got my dough.
