Good luck setting up a South Bay Meet. Having Los Altos range would make any meet a fun event...

A South Bay meet is a good idea. I would like to see if we can have a meet once a month and rotate through the different sections of the bay. If someone here would like to become a volunteer for South Bay meet planning please let me know.

I created this doodle to help negotiate times. I am only free on weeknights in march (booked 'em all up before we decided to do this meet up) so unless I get no responses for the weeknights suggested, we will stick to the suggested times:
http://doodle.com/bf8imaxntudnnr3t

let me know if you have any issues with the doodle, it is pretty self explanatory. I was thinking sunnyvale rod and gun since they are the only outdoor range I know of that has lights to allow shooting after dark. I am not opposed to Reeds indoor range/target masters, but figured I would pick somewhere rifles could shoot too.

let me know

No the doodle works. Also Target masters has a rifle range 50yards i believe so we could go there as well. As of right now the 22nd is the only date I may be available on. With the month being half over already we might want to consider pushing it back to the beginning of April.

ok. I am def biased to targetmasters/reeds (since they are closer to me). Please update doodle (and others) rather than posting availability here. The purpose of the doodle is to have single source of truth of mutual availability

Sorry you are correct I do not know what I was thinking. They only have 25yard ranges.

Do they allow .223 in their 25 yd ranges? Last time I was there they only allowed rimfire rifles or shotguns.

In any case, I'm down for a South Bay meet. Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club would be another great option (I find it a little friendlier than Los Altos R&G), but unfortunately they're a bit too small (not enough centerfire lanes).

Reeds and TM doesn't allow .223 on thier lanes, only rimfire or (for Reed's) certain handgun calibers thru a rifle (not sure what, have to ask). The only way to shoot .223 at Reeds is by taking thier tactical carbine class.

And yea Sunnyvale is small but at least they don't yell at ya for driving over 3mph.

Just as a reminder Sunnyvale is only open to the public for rifle and handguns on Tuesday night till 9pm. All other public times is till 5pm on Friday, Sat, Sun..

And the handgun lanes start at 25yrds nothing else....

Sooooooo if we go to shoot .223 or
other rifles on the weeknights it's a Tuesday night only...just FYI

I think best time for everyone right now is this friday march 22 at 615 pm, most likely at target masters unless mass uprising (I have found availability at reeds can be a lot more competitive than TM especially at peak times).

Outdoor range shoot will be organized for April/may soon. I like either los altos or metcalf county range unless others object

no worries, as I said, given the short notice, I think this first one will be more a meet and greet chill time. As time goes on hope to gain momentum and have others host events too

Don't forget, there's a monthly 2A meet at Harry's Hofbrau on the last Thursday of every month.

Think it starts at either 6 or 7pm. (I'd call to be sure)

Talk, beers, and raffles for gun-related stuff.

See you there (I hope) on March 28th for the next one!

i havent been there before, but I think it will hopefully be less crowded:
http://www.scvrc.com/10th_street.htm

San Jose Municipal Firing Range
1580 South 10th Street
San Jose, CA 95112
408-275-1738
Public Hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Saturday 2pm to 5pm

Fees:
Adults $5.00 per hour
Juniors $1.00 per hour (Juniors must be accompanied by an adult)
Eye Protection, Ear Protection and Targets available

Regulations:
Pistols: 22 to 45 caliber (No magnums)
Rifles: any air rifle or 17-22 LR rimfire only
Eye and ear protection required

Currently we are looking at this friday at 615 pm, so that fits the bucket for hours open. In my experience there is typically a 30-40 min wait time for lane at reeds after work hours (5-6 pm). Target masters is usually slightly more available. This 10th st range is much cheaper, and I would assume less crowded since no rentals (less newbies walk ins)

not sure how many lanes. It is very near to where I live, so I will check it out later today, as they are open tues/wed/fri nights.

I think on a friday we have a better bet here than reeds/TM getting lanes

TM does not have a 50 yard lane, in fact they don't even have 25 yard lane anymore , they converted it to 15 yards
