Default Eotech hologram very faint in bright sunlight.

I recently acquired an Eotech 553 and used it today for the first time, but was not happy with the (lack of) visibility of the hologram. Is this due to weak batteries, or is the Aimpoint red dot I'm used to looking at just a lot brighter?

Even in bright light my EOTechs are brighter than I would want on the max setting.

If you have a multimeter, what is the reading on your batteries?

I doubt it's batteries if they're anywhere near fresh - I did some battery and current consumption tests recently with Eotechs, and it took the batteries being very, very low before the reticle would dim any. Still, it's an easy enough thing to check - measure them with a voltmeter if you have one, or just replace them.

If your batteries are good, give Eotech a call. There have been several similar reports in the arfcom optics forum in recent months, and they've been fixed by Eotech.

It should be plenty visible in sunlight.

If you turn your Eotech on to full brightness, you should see a halo of the recticle on the glass due to the intensity. You don't need to check with a voltmeter. If you have weak batteries, the recticle will blink on & off.
If you don't see that in either of the cases, there's something wrong with your unit.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll get in touch with Eotech to see if they can fix it under warranty.
