I'm not going to be able to drag my carcass to IVE tonight, it seems that I've come down with something. Shooting is still free though!

What a shame, they refused to honor the calguns discount last night without you. Relatively busy, but not what I was expecting.

Would be great if we could get more of a presence inside the range.

Anyone got a mouse gun for me to shoot? IVE doesn't have a super tiny thing to rent, and I'd like to try one out. Maybe you could bring it for next month's shoot?

I don't know, what's a mouse gun? I've got a 22 revolver, would that count?

So what's the word on this Friday. Any idea if IVE will be honoring a Calguns discount? I was hoping to put an hour or so in at the range.

Somebody ought to come by and shoot for free here at Island View. There is almost nobody here, you'll get a lane real quick!

I stopped by after work and shot 100 through mu EDC. Chatted with scifigunner for a bit.

Gun shelves at IVE were pretty are. They've sold so much stock and are having a hard time keeping stock on the selves. Continued fallout from San Berdoo...

Betcha IVE was already packing their stock up for the gun show the next day.

But you're right - their stock has been pretty low lately. Perhaps it's better that I'm not tempted.

I didn't see IVE at all on Sunday at the show. Anyone see them on Saturday?

Thanks for the reminder, I'll be cruising there after work. If anyone wants to try shooting one of my guns, bring some ammo and let me know what you'd like to try out. Think of it as a no-charge rental!

I stopped by IVE last night, and had the pleasure of meeting scifigunner. I also took advantage of the free shooting and did some much-needed practicing. The range was not crowded, and I had a good time.

While walking back to my car, my rolled-up target got hit by a wind gust, flew out of my hand and rolled rapidly across the parking lot. A man stepped out from a group of friends chatting and grabbed my wayward target. As I thanked him for catching it for me, I said, "I knew my shooting was less than wonderful, but I didn't think my target would want to run away from me!"

I didn't know IVE allowed 50s. Maybe I'll bring one or two up next month (if I can make it) just to give a few people "50 grins". Someone needs to PM me about a week before the meet and remind me.

Would be kinda cool to get a calguns "gun exchange" going. I certainly don't want to edge in on IVE's rental business, but if some of you have some really cool guns to shoot, maybe declare it before going, let people know the caliber so they can bring a box of ammo to shoot through it.

Alternatively, if you're looking for a gun (that IVE doesn't rent) to shoot, ask here and maybe someone can bring one from their collection to test out?

For example, I'd like to shoot a Sig P938, and as far as I know IVE doesn't rent this gun. Anyone have one they wouldn't mind bringing one so I can put a box of factory ammo through it?

Ive also never shot a semi-auto 12ga shotgun if anyone happens to bring one that'd be cool too.

I haven't been shooting in a while. I think I will attend. Anyone looking for a particular caliber or gun to try out? List what you want to shoot hopefully we can do an easy calguns exchange (gun trial) without stepping on IVE's rental business.

Yep. I plan on hitting the range right after I drop of my CCW renewal at the VCSD office on Telephone. Be there about 2 or so....

Is tomorrow (24 Feb) still on for the Monthly shoot? With the way IVE is going I'm wondering if they are still supporting us....

Well, their gun store is now "by appointment only", and the current crop of employees doesn't seem to give a rats *** about the customers going to the range. My last few visits have been very disappointing...

I'm not calling you a liar, but I gotta see this to believe it.

I know this is short notice, but would anyone be willing to bring a snub-nose or light weight revolver for me to try? I've got 38 and 357 factory ammo I'll be bringing, I just want to try a few shots (probably 1 cylinder full) to know how small revolver recoil is. Anyone wanna bring one?

I haven't been there in probably 4 months, but it just doesn't seem like them from what I experienced. Not to mention that makes very little business sense to sell guns by appointment only.

I was there in late Jan, just before the month shoot and the gun shop was closed with a sign that said by appointment only. Not sure I'll make it tonight so let me know if it's closed or not...

Still free shooting today, but yeah, fun sales are by appointment only with 0 in Stock. Strange business model.

Edit: The guy behind the counter chatted me up for a hot minute, what he told me was when there were a lot of people at the range, they would spill over to the gun store and look at guns and want to fondle them for 20 minutes while they waited for a lane to open up. IVE got tired of paying 2-4 employees to display guns at the gunshop to people who have 0 intention on buying. The overhead of having employees there all day became too much. Still strange, but I have no idea what the cost of doing business is.

Guess that makes sense. Someone in the thread about VC gun stores claims that IVE is for sale (building and business) in the 3 - 4 Million range. Not sure if it's true or not but that might explain some of it as well.

That may or may not be true. I don't know how an individual could even probe that. Last I heard there are ways to see if a business is for sale but its not as simple as googling it.

They've only been in business for ~8 years I think; I remember going into their store the first couple weeks they opened and bought some lowers. The owner had hip replacement surgery a couple years ago due to an old injury, he's only in his 30s, maybe 40s. I can't imagine he wants to try and retire at that age after medical expenses, so the only reason it would be for sale is he wants to get out of the gun business. Who knows.
