New toy, T-minus 9days... .416 Barrett

No idea which scope I plan on getting - but, there she is...

...also, if you have ammo that might be interested in sharing, selling or telling me how I get it - I am all ears... well, eyes - being a forum and all...

Oh dear - fabulous purchase. No matter what you paid for it, it's a good buy.

I got a great scope on Ebay - too many people are worried about a nic or scratch on a scope housing, and too many Ebay sellers don't understand the importance of the "sizzle" that a good pic can offer. I got a B&L Elite 4000 6-24x40 for $193 shipped - pic had some nics and scratches, but a little spray paint covered that but quick. The glass is spectacular, and for what I paid I couldn't be happier.

That isn't to say that you should jump on a scope on Ebay, but don't be overly-risk averse as you'll pass up a lot of great deals.

Is that a B&C? Looks to be the exact stock, aside from your OD vs my tan, that UPS should toss down on my doorstep tomorrow.

LOL, I have high hopes on this 3rd gen. Would've gotten the NF but I don't like the rotating eyepiece.

I hope they get it right.
It would be a kick-arse scope if they could get them to stay together.

It should hold to the .308. If it dies, Monarch X will be my next option.

Alright you jinxed me!!! After 60rds, the reticle would cant left and right when I turn the zoom ring at 3x~4x. Also several debris would move around the reticle after every shot that is visible at 3x~6x. The scope did stay zero though after another 58rds even after I turned the knobs in full turns. Going back to Valdada on Tuesday, their CS is pretty good though and fast.

Hey, at least the rifle did it's job.
My best three shot group towards the end of the day.

Those rings are WAY too tall.
You want that scope to sit down close to the barrel.

60 rounds is about right.
Most last 40-100 rounds before dying.
If you make it past 500 rounds without problems, it's a good one and will probably last a long time.

Yup - waiting on the new ones to come in. They account for the high-cheekrest position as well.

The ones in the pic are surplus non-name units I had lying around. Had a chance to shoot her today with what was installed and figured WTH.

I wonder if the NF's FFP version also encounter these problems. I'm done with FFPs, I also had another FFP scope from another company that broke down from a .223 rifle, but that one lasted 1.5k~2k+ rds.

It's not the FFP that's the issue.
It's the design and construction.
The high end scopes with FFP don't seem to have any more problems than the high end scopes with SFP.

The 3-18x42 IOR was just a problem child from the start.
What was your other FFP that died?

I haven't heard anybody complain about the 3-18x42 SFP like the FFPs and my problems seems to be the same with the others are experiencing. Anywho, Valdada is exchanging it to SFP. I really don't care about the FFP feature, I have no issues with MOA to MIL combination.

My other FFP scope was a Chinese brand Vector Optics. My Meopta and Bushnell are SFPs and have been solid so far. I gotta say though that the Meopta's glass is as good as the IORs.

I think that IOR tried to re-design the 3-18 SFP model into the FFP model without REALLY re-designing it.
THAT is probably why the FFP models are so unreliable.
A proper FFP scope will be designed that way from the start, not adapted.

The Chinese scope, well, it's a chinese scope...

Gotta pay to play. Seekins makes a DBM for 223 as well. Don't know what it runs, but it may be an option for you.
