Default West Texas ELR match Oct 7-8th

Now that Tonopah is cancelled, who wants to go to this one?

West Texas ELR Match

Date: October 7-8 2017

Location: Midland, TX

POC: Bill Poor

Email: blacksmithchamp2007@yahoo.com

Event Webpage: https://www.facebook.com/events/1376488302394194/

Comments: ELR match with official sanction rules targets well be from 500 yards to 3000 yards more than half the targets well be past 1500 yards with a 3636 size target competitors well get 3 shots per target and receive more points for first round hits for all targets! Any World record attempts well be all official and legit! It well start first thing in the morning so your rifle well be cold, you may pick your distance provided that distance target is already set, must be 1500+ at a 3636 size target and you have 3 shots and all 3 must hit the target including your cold bore shot to count as a world record all attempts well be video recorded both at the shooter and the target! 100 dollers for both match a attempt at a world record attempt or 75 dollers for just the match! Cash back to the top 3 shooters and trophies awarded to shooters for hits 1000 yards and beyond with goodies from unknowntarget.com

Right in the middle of one of my hunts, I'm out. I've visited with Bill Poor before though. Seems like a cool guy. I would like to buy some of his Damascus knives. Talented guy.

The ELR Central site is showing that "Mitchell (Fitzpatrick) is going", so maybe some other of the AB team will also.

What are the official World Records and who is the Official Sanctioning body for World Records?
I have shot in several sanctioning bodies and they have websites set up that show the world records.

They didn't tell me the exact location yet since this match hasn't been 'confirmed' yet and is still more than 6 months out

But I suppose it will be at Valdina Farms since that is next to San Antonio

Interested to go ?

At this point there are no "official" world records - just a lot of claims without a set of rules or criteria. The closest "opportunity" appears to be the "criteria" established by the ELR Central group - "As of 2017, ELR Central has published a set of guidelines and standards by which official world records can be established." links to http://elrc.appliedballisticsllc.com...-world-record/

As best I know there have been no events shot or scheduled to be shot that actually include a "world record" opportunity under the ELR Central criteria.

The match in TX in October has a possibility to shoot for world record

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.eve...vent/216682116

Also the cancelled match in Tonopah NV had the opportunity

You have to have a standardized set of rules and procedures to have a legitimate world record and so far nothing I have seen even comes close.

Not easy

And let's say you follow the rules who is gonna do the registration ?

Finally if you go for world record I think you need something more 'official' than your best best buddy who saw you realizing it . . .

Maybe call or ask the Guinness guys !

I have seen world records rejected because of pasters being on the target or the target taken home even though it was officially scored prior to leaving the range.
The Applied Ballistics Team is on the right track trying to standardise the shooting so things are easier to decipher.
Problem is calling something a World Record is a big commitment and verification is KING!!!!!
You have guys shooting human torsos rectangles squares and round gongs of verying sizes plus 20 different methods of measuring the distance shot.
The course of fire also needs defining on record attempts.
I see YouTube video showing a guy shooting 100's of rounds over the course of a weekend and making a single hit.
The short-range Benchrest shooters call that spray and prey shooting.
Then you throw in Europe and the rest of the world and we have meters instead of yards and that has to count of your calling it a world record.
Not saying it can't be done but I think it will get categorised according to target used.

And there all the 'hassle' starts

Let's say the Ko2M (3520 yards)

No one in Europe uses miles (besides the UK) . . . but kilometer and meter

I suppose they shoot at 1, 2 or 3 kilometer targets

The Ko2M would be there the King of 3218.688 meters ?

The Ko3.218 . . . ?

Guess it is gonna be really complex

Just my .02
