Default URSA 2000 Yard Match NorCal

Shooters
We are holding our first match of 2020 above UpperLake on the 3rd Sunday in January.
If we get enough shooters and that already looks good the only issue would be rain or snow.

We would like to get shooting at first light so we can hold multiple matches in the same day.
As always no Fees and no pit duty just sign up show up sign up and shoot.
Typically you will need 83 moa with a 338 Lapua to get on the gong so make sure you have enough scope elevation or hold over.
Please bring 60 rounds or more in case you get into a shootoff you don't run out. Trust me that sucks.
www.unlimitedrange.org to sign up and I will send you directions.
Hopefully Shaun Brady will have one of his new builds on the line and can show us how to make the gong ring.

Well we already have 4 shooters signed up and two weeks to go so if the weather holds out we are good to go.
Please keep an eye on the weather for UpperLake. It's really hard to spot your misses in mud.
If we get washed out I will post here first.

Im pretty sure I signed up Lynn, and have a customer Im building a rifle for tagging along. If I haven't signed up let me know and I'll try again. Also, if I have any left over rounds after the comp, I'll let spectators shoot my rifle to try and get a hit at 2000.

You are signed up and we have enough shooters so the match is a go.
I will have two BillyGoat Machine rifles at the match and we will get everyone a hit if the ammo holds out.

Short video from the firing line. In the video the gong is in the notch of the far hillside.

Does that fit on an ordinary long action or do you need a Magnum action?

Not really. Loaded rounds had to be removed with removal of the bolt on my last setup. Some normal long actions might be able to cycle short bullets but with a long Berger bullet no way. Not the most bestest for long range but I like the oddball things in life.

Neat. Looking at the work schedule I might be able to make the April event should there be one. 2000 yards sounds like fun.

I'm looking at possibly attending the Feb 16th event.

Possible to camp there over night? It would be a 3-4 hour drive for me...coming from South Bay.

Yes you can camp right on the target road itself. Whitemamba Hoffer and myself did it quite a few times.
I was in the bed of my truck and this time of the year you need a good bag as it gets snow up there and in the summer you get mosquito.

I remember when they cooked up that cartridge. Tells you how old I am. I think I had a subscription to Shooting Times back then. I might even still have the issue where they introduced it.

Thanks for the invite Lynn. It might be fun to do again, but not this month.

Two fire evacuation warnings and a canceled home owners policy have made clearing trees and brush my new winter hobby.

My current ELR situation is a hot mess of burned out barrels, partially developed new projects, and piles of parts for unstarted projects.

I still shoot occasionally with guys I met at USRA matches. We have a range set up on a private ranch and use a COF similar to KO2M day 1 or the SW ULR guys. We start at 1200 yards and the last target is at 2300, so we're a few hundred yards short of those examples. I'm hoping that you guys clear out some of the star thistle on the NorCal URSA range so I don't have to before using it again.

Good luck tomorrow.

The range is on the south end of the Mendocino National Forest. There are several campsites within 20-30 minutes of the range if you don't want to camp by the side of the road. The Middle Creek campground is probably the largest and best equipped.

Treasure Cove Pizza in Upper Lake has great pizza and burgers, the truck stop has a good breakfast.

The match has been cancelled due to weather so let everyone know.
I already talked to whitemamba Skkeeter Billy The Kid and Focus and will contact those signed up by email after this post.
I made it about 1/3 the way up the mountain today and that was it.

Interested in what you guys use for the tripod.

Took my Labradar to range and test it today. On the tall tripod it works well but picks up shots from next lane. So thinking about getting a bench base or short tripod so the unit will be behind a wall from next lane. Would be nice if it works on the ground when prone.

Those two shooters both post here so maybe they will respond. Focus and WhiteMamba you out there?
And both of you need to sign up for the match so I don't win.

I found a Manfrotto Pixi desk top tripod, seems to be great.
