Anyone else stuck indefinitely?
Here we are with the end of our tour coming up. Just waiting for our counterparts to make their way to and through Ft. Hood. Bam! Coronavirus hits and now we can count on at least an extra month on the tour due to 14 day quarantine coming into country then 14 day quarantine returning to US.
Oh, but wait, our host country has closed their borders so now no one coming in. Last I heard was Hood might also close or delay our back fill because they haven't started movement there yet. So now we are delayed indefinitely. And locked down on post. It may be many months before I even get to go home even when back in the States since I am headed to WTU for surgery. I am still mission capable so I insisted and they kept me around. A hell of a way to finish my first deployment. All in all we'll have some stories. Charlie Mike.

Darn man I’m sorry to hear that, brings new meaning to ‘hurry up and wait’. As much as it may suck stay positive and do something constructive (study, train, workout) and goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway...thank you.

Hey I appreciate it, thank you! I am just keeping in the rhythm of the daily routine. We're not suffering and certainly there are worse places. Although the only place to eat now is the DFAC since any other on-post shops are closed.
Even though the Post is locked down and no one has been sick, we now have to maintain 6-feet "social distancing" at all times, walking around, in line at the DFAC, etc. So that means the line for the hand wash sinks and CAC-in at the DFAC was out the door tonight. But, we can still work face to face with patients in the CSH, lol. All local civilians are under a national curfew and they run some of the MWR places on Post. As of tomorrow the gym is closed until further notice. I got the bright idea to try my hand in the stock market. I realized within 2 days why I am not rich. I will find another hobby until I get home. Thanks again!

The worst part about all of this really is that I cannot be at home to take care of the loved ones. I see and hear updates from leadership, information is changing hourly it seems. While the news from CA, whole State on a shelter in place order?, gets worse daily. Usually you hear about your family members worrying about the Soldier. I think this is one time when things are actually better/safer in the deployed area than at home.

When we lined up for anything we maintained three foot intervals. In our barracks we hung our shelter halves on one side of our bunks as a sneeze barrier. Trainees were restricted to the company area during off hours. We had white tags sewn on our fatigue shirts above our name so we could be easily spotted if we were somewhere we shouldn't be. Today's situation is much worse so I can't imagine how they're dealing with it.

Well, new 60-day Stop Movement Order this week. Two weeks after the last one. No cases here yet but our hospital is bracing for CoV-19. I'm still working with patients until they tell me not to. Leadership is in a constant state of Powerpoint preparation. I found that working out with pull up, dip bars, and various rocks amassed in the PT area is pretty tough! Oh, I made back the money I initially lost my first 2 days playing the stock market. Was up $2k after that! but now back to even after yesterday. Oh well. For giggles I've been giving haircuts (Free of course), doing my part to maintain the standard! I'd say I'm a 6 out of 10. Barber shops on Post are closed. I've done 4 so far.
Stay safe an healthy everyone!

I’m at basic right now. Family day is cancelled, might get a base pass if we’re lucky. Social distance is 6 feet and going to the dfac is a nightmare. As of now we’re still going to AIT but everything changes daily.

I don't doubt it. We had an exception to policy memo signed so we were still scheduled for movement back to the States. Being a medical unit we were considered mission essential. Not so with the new stop movement order. It seems no one is going anywhere. I would be happy to buy you a cup of coffee when I get back and when things get back to some sort of normal. Quote:
You are correct, everything is constantly changing. Try not to get frustrated with differing and opposing instructions and guidance. That's the norm on a good day, it's just happening much more than usual now, lol. Eventually we will settle in to some regular routine and things will get back to normal. Keep an eye out for your buddies and fellow Soldiers alike, and also look after yourself; physically, mentally and spiritually.

Yes, thank God. At least we still get hot chow. If we get to HPCON D it's take out only or MRE's at our doors. Hoping we never get to that point.
Thank you! I appreciate it. Happy to be here with my brothers and sisters. Just wish back home wasn't such a mess. I'm praying for all of you good folks as well.

Yes. I heard. All of our E5's are putting in packets. I joked I'd put one in so I could be my own NCOIC. Meanwhile, our poor S1 spent hours and hours going over everyone's ORB and getting everything in iPERMS. There was one COL that hadn't updated anything on over 8 years.

It's just so sad to see how much stuff has to be hand held from the highest levels.
Just got the e-mail guidance regarding NCOER/OER's that are due now, but will not have current APFT scores. It goes to show, the lowest levels of raters don't have the common sense to handle it logically. i.e. make note of COV19 and the stand in place order in regard to no current record APFT

Hey, you guys ripped with us. Aside from our XO kept f'ing up paperwork that delayed us getting on a bird, things for us were also pushed to the left several weeks because the Iran thing started. We ket getting calls to stand ready in case we had to jump. Are you guys still getting carrot cake? Guess no more scooped ice cream in the DFAC.

Just got a flag waiver approved for my relief to PCS.
It helped that the first stop movement order happened literally as the moving vans were loading up his stuff. We are taking it day by day, base commander has said unequivocally that we are not shutting down production.

We're in the middle of not knowing wtf is going on over here. My wife has orders to PCS in August. Her replacement got sucked onto the Mercy and it's unknown when they'll arrive to relieve my wife due to the mission and freeze order. We own our home and were prepping to sell soon, but the market bottomed out with the economic collapse and no PCS. My wife came to the dinner table the other night and said, "Well, umm...." and nothing more and no indication of what she was going to say. I replied with, "Yes, for the good of the Navy, I'm fine with extending our time for up to 3 years where we currently are." She was shocked I knew the question before she asked it. Regardless, extending current orders to help alleviate the backlog of PCS is a possibility right now. With that said, she hasn't had her orders changed, but there's the usual rumors floating around. Best to be prepared than to be caught off guard.

With the new guidance on the SecDef Stop movement orders, we are starting to move again. I fully expect the rug to be pulled from under us at at moment.
1SG: We are leaving in 4 weeks. 1SG: Scratch that, grab your $h!t! We are leaving in 3 days! 1SG: As you were. Hurry up and wait! |

Well try not to laugh your ball$ off at this. We were given a departure date last week. I knew things were going too well: plenty of time to out process, pack, hit the mailroom, DTS done. All very un-Army. Of course in true Army fashion we just got notice that flight was cancelled. New departure date unknown. Depends on whatever eggplant measuring contest caused the flight cancellation. RIP/TOA is essentially done so I get to hurry up and wait. The Universe is now in balance again. Lol.

Well, finally made it back to Hood. 2 week quarantine is done. All my team has left for home. Happy for them but also a bit sad to be without the folks I've seen daily. The Army is full of goodbyes I've learned.
I off to the WTU soon to get fixed up. Probably going to be a long haul to get back up to full speed with the surgery I'm looking at. If anyone is here at Hood give me a shout. Off to my next adventure. Ended up doing over 80 haircuts, right up until the day before I left. All free of course. No one complained. I had quite the set up by the end.

My wife's papers to detach from her current command have been signed. She detaches in August, and we'll head to California in August. She's telling me everything is funded and approved. I hope so. Our house will be listed for sale next week.
