You will be shooting from the fixed position, you'll need a mat to lay on and a front rest or bipod, a rear bag is allowed also.
The ranges to the target are marked so you won't need a rangefinder. You will be single loading, no loading the magazine. You can take turns with your wife, you'll be scored individually and the gun is going to get hot if you're both shooting it. We have electronic targets so there's no marking or pulling targets in the butts. Bring a smart phone or a tablet because the targets WiFi to your phone. I'll be there all day Saturday but I'm not staying overnight this time.

Yes Dane.
Saturday, 600 yards in the morning and 1,000 yards at Noon. Last weekend's afternoon match was brutal. We had that headwind that shifted left and right 45 degrees. People were shooting 6" tall groups that were 3 feet wide! I'll probably be up there Sunday morning,

Marlin, next matches are July 18-19. Fjold updates the first post with details.
Frank, I cannot remember, do the guys frown on semis at the match? I built a rifle for the lady and need to collect data! |

I'll post the update when I get the email update on what distances we'll be shooting at on which days. But, the matches are on the weekend of the 18th and 19th.
Dane, No problem with semi-autos but they must be single loaded during the match. You'll want a single shot sled or an empty magazine in the gun.

10-4. If I can get this AR10 to cycle right I'll bring it to shoot!

I'll be there Sunday for the 800-1000.
Really looking forward to getting my long range game back. Been spending a lot of time in USPSA so I'm dying to shoot far away again! |

Do people with inferior long guns try at these competitions or shoots?
I mean like trying a small caliber long gun for 600-1000range shots? Ex. 223,/556, 762x39, etc. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |

You'll be the most accurate with a supersonic bullet at impact but a lot of the 20" 308s won't make and people will shoot those out there. Like Dane says we've had guys shooting 20" ARs with 90 grain bullets loaded so long that they wouldn't fit in the magazine and with powder charges above book maximum but it's a lot to risk. I've shot the 1,000 yard match with a 22.250 AI and 68 grain match bullets but only on a calm day with low atmospheric pressure.

You'll have to adjust your sights so that you can put your front sight post on the bottom of the bull (picture a pumpkin on a post) and hit in the center.

I’ve messed around with black powder loaded 45-70 through a Springfield Trapdoor at a 1000 yard piece of steel about 48” wide using the ladder sight and front post. Over 35 rounds I got one hit. It was fun, but I can’t say it didn’t feel like a chore.
That experience did inspire me to buy a Sharps rifle to attempt the same thing later so....maybe you’ll find a new challenge you want to try? |

Good shoot today! After 8 years off the long range game it feels good to get back on rifles that have been collecting dust!
The shot marker system is badass! Stoked to know my velocities of old loads I haven’t touched in years held single digit standard deviation just by looking at the shot marker data. Going to do my best to make a habit out of showing up! Last edited by RugerNo1; 07-20-2020 at 8:44 AM.. |

Ed and I got some work and testing completed on Target Frame 5 today, Should be in good shape for the August Match. If I am not mistaken it should be next weekend 15th and 16th for those interested. Try your hand Saturday on the 600 Yard match.
Please no muzzle breaks this time! The Burms just got refinished with the grader and are super sandy. wouldnt want that on your neighbors. ~Cam |

The September matches were held the weekend of the 19th and 20th but I wasn't able to attend. I broke my foot and the doctor has me in one of the open-toed boots for the next 4-5 weeks .
