Default Unabashed praise for Ron Etchells (yankeeshooter.com) at Sac Valley

I just finished Ron's CCW class at Sac Valley Shooting Center.

All I can say is, "BRAVO!". This gentleman is a great instructor and is well worth every penny! He may not be the cheapest CCW class around, but his course of instruction is well worth the investment. As an added bonus, you get free re-training for life! He'll take you to the next level of proficiency, all you have to do is let him know you are coming and then show up at the appointed time.

In his humorous, yet always professional method, he covers everything you need to know about the legal, moral, and technical aspects of the mature decision to carry concealed. His attention to detail, personable tact, as well as the depth and breadth of his instruction give you what you need to know to prepare for CCW.

He covers the choices of firearms, ammunition, holsters, dressing for CCW, and the practical considerations of each, as well as the possible pitfalls.

If you've been trying to decide which course of instruction to take and from whom, and you're within driving distance of where he's going to be teaching, he is, in my humble opinion, money and time well spent. I will surely be taking follow-up courses from him to hone my skills and broaden my knowledge.

Glad to hear you got educated.

So many people believe gun training/ CCW training means trigger time. CCW training involves knowing how to not use your weapon more than how to shoot a threat. I'm an evocate for "you next gun needs to be training".

Ah, m&p guy...Nice shooting btw.

I was the tall guy with the black LaRue hat and the G26 who talked to you before we headed out to the range.

Turned out to be a pretty interesting class. Learned some valuable things, got a bit more confident in my abilities, and had a good time. Doesn't get much better than that.

So the question now is... who is Nukechaser?

Don't feel bad, we had a noob that used a effing shoulder holster in our class!

And people probably wondered why I wore body armor under my clothing...

I have not trained with Mr. Etchells, but have never, ever hear anything but positive things about him and his training. I look forward to training with him one day.

I was the guy with the Glock 30, light blue t-shirt, and the Spkikestactical khaki that had "Infidel" across the front.

Ron didn't give me a nickname, either.

Funny side note: Remember "Bob", the seasoned citizen with the sweet little Kimber? He's the dad of a girl with whom I went to high school. With all our eyes/ears/hats on, we didn't recognize each other until the very end of the day! Small world...

Ya know I saw a program on the outdoor channel about a CCW class. It was in the mid-west somewhere. It was a 2 day class that did alot of good/bad shoot scenarios and stuff. I saw them introducing everything from confined spaces/multiple assailants/loud noise scenarios... I agree that the teaching of no shoot/shoot scenarios is extremely important.

I absolutely want to do just that. Unfortunately, the past two years it was on weekends that I was at Pendleton. I hope to make it next time.

My wife and I took Ron's class and have been back a few times for more advanced training. Ron is truly a high energy type of guy, so his classes are never boring. He touches on all aspects of ccw, not just shooting. Walks you thru several scenerios on when to use deadly force and when to run away. Great class!

Run away? I didn't hear that during the class on 10/30, but enjoyed his suggestion about pulling up a chair on your neighbor's front yard across the street if you come home and find your door kicked in.

Besides the practical advice on how to avoid the need to use deadly force, I greatly appreciated Ron's close attention to my grip, finger control, stance, etc. While I was struggling at practice today a light bulb went off and I could almost hear Ron correcting me as I figured out I was making one of the same mistakes as I did in class. I look forward to going back out for more training.

We had a guy in our class with a Walther .22 w/IWB holster.

Not even acceptable for Placer CCW app.

I took Ron's class last fall. I have to agree. He even almost had to defend me from a dude at a gas station that day as we were driving out together to the class.... (that's another long story for a different day!)

I just don't like it though that his sessions are at a facility SO FREAKING FAR AWAY... LOL!

Another +1 for Ron's class, took it today and learned new techniques that made me more accurate immediately! When you factor in free re-quals it's a good price too. Thumbs up and thanks Ron!

You don't need one, but it's better to have one. Your LVL2 will work for the class but you're going to hear all about why its no good for CCW.

Just go buy a $12 dollar blackhawk IWB - The suede looking black ones.

Just to clarify, IWB isn't required for the class.
