I did about 250 HSM Plated 230gn FP, and another ~200 rounds of berry's 230gn RN using 4.5gn of Bullseye. I need to hurry up and polish off this last bit of bullseye and switch to a cleaner powder.

Preparing to do a big bulk reload on .223, 55gn Hornady VMAX and BLC(2). I've never reloaded for .223 and I've been hearing Varget is better. Anyone have any experience with the two?

Nothing yet, making a holster and mag holster for my Hi-power, then maaybe a couple hundred 9mm rounds. I hate not having a 9mm set up for my progressive.

If you've never reloaded 223 I strongly suggest you go with H335. It's much more forgiving.

You bridge a stick powder in your powder measure and your next round will be explosive.

I would only load varget if you were measuring every single charge.

Sorry, I should clarify. I've never reloaded .223 on my new progressive press. I have reloaded .223 before.

Thanks for the powder info though. I'll check out the data for H335.

Since i got lee's reloading book (2nd edition) with the purchase I used the load data straight out the door

I used 115 grain bullets with power pistol powder, remington primers and the brass was mixed...

I'm confuse on the load data though, in the book it lays out what measure to use for the powder for the different methods. I believe power pistol the grain was 6.3, I got the lee auto disk loader with my press and a lee scale (which I don't like too much) and it says to use the .53 cavity. But when I measured it (after I threw it and put it back a few times) its lighter than 6.3...

The dipper measurement is the same way, why is this? Is it a problem? Do I need to pull the bullets and start over? I'M SO CONFUSED!

First of all, the dipper and cavity tables are guidelines not hard facts. Always test the recommended tool and measure it several (5 to 10) times to see if it varies. Also spot check every so often while reloading to verify that it is consistent.

If you don't like the Lee scale, then try a Dillon Eliminator or RCBS 505. They are much easier to use. I went from the Lee scale to the Dillon, myself.

The Alliant load data book (see link below) lists the MAX charge. You should never start with the max, but rather start at the min and work up if necessary. Did your Lee reloading book give a min & max? In any case, the Alliant site lists the max at 6.7 and your book said 6.3. If you made loads lower than that, then you should be fine. How much lower is your powder in those completed rounds? How many did you make? If you're not sure that you did it consistently, then it might be time to fire up the impact bullet puller. It is much better to put in a few hours of work then be surprised by your own handloads.

You should start a thread asking for Power Pistol 115 grn 9mm load data. People will gladly steer you in the right direction on where to start out.

Request a paper copy of the Alliant load data book here:
http://www.alliantpowder.com/resources/catalog.aspx

Or PDF version here:

The lee book does give 6.7 as a max load, and 6.2 is the recomended starting load. The powder disc measure and dipper are giving me consistantly about 5.7, is that ok?

It would be better to pull them and reload with 6.2. How many rounds did you make?

I recently pulled 300 9mm bullets - it took few hours as you could imagine. All my dimensions and specs were good, but when I loaded the bullet in the gun at the range the slide failed to go into battery. The shape of the bullet was the problem since it was too rounded. The bullet was hitting the rifling before the case mouth. The best way to check this is to pull the barrel and compare a factory round to your reload.

Not many, it won't be hard, I just need to get a bullet puller, and a scale, and calipers... shouldn't take more than say an hour or so to pull them and restart.

Calipers and an impact puller should be $15 to $20 each. Harbor Freight for the calipers and Bass Pro or Turners for the puller. MidwayUSA is the best place online for tooling.

The Lee scale is accurate, but slow. Just make sure it is level before zeroing it. You can attach it to a board with three screws for feet. Then you adjust the screws with a small level on the board to make sure the scale is flat.

The spreadsheet Lee provides is just a guideline. There is a lot of acceptable variation even between lots of the same powder. Lots of other factors can affect a given volume's weight.

Keep notes on what cavity = what weight of a given powder. Always double check with a scale. When I package my rounds I label with bullet, powder type and weight, and what # disc cavity was used.

There's also the "plunk" test. Hold your barrel vertical & drop a round into the chamber. It should "plunk."

100 rounds of 9mm using Berry's 115gr plated bullets. These bullets look like the stuff that Miwall uses in their reloads.

Fifty rounds 30-06 for my Garand. 150g FMJ/BT over 44.2g of varget.
I was over crimping and squeezing out the shoulders just enough so they stick in the chamber. I had to break the offenders down, resize and try again.

I got it this time, but my problem seems to be crimping into the cannalure takes a good amount of roll to keep it tight. I dont want any crimp at all, but their isnt enough tension at the cannalure to keep the bullet in place. Does that make any sense? I did half with the Lee factory and half with the seater. I like the seater better, even though most people say they like the FCD better.

Oh that's just 10% of what I have in mind. Still making two more benches to connect to that bench with shelves and hangers and all the goodies.

Just did a caliber switch on the LNL from .45 to .223 - It was pretty easy. After getting the dies setup, I did about 100 .223 with Hornady XPT 55gn with 24gn of BL-C2 and CCI 400 primers.

160 perfectly manicured pieces of .44 special brass. Waiting for projectiles, then it's groups of 20 each by 4 different bullets and two different powders.

Now all I need is the $&%?*&* gun and bullets to get here!

I've been thinking about some 62 grain myself. Actually, I think I will go grab a box tonight. I just want to accuracy test between the 55 and 62.

1000 rounds of my competition 62gr .223 ammo. Going to load another 1000 or until my powder runs out tomorrow.
