Default Does anyone shoot .45 in competition anymore?

I have a Springfield 1911 Target .45 cal. I shoot 9mm and .22 in Steel Challenge and I was check to see what can I use my .45 in? USPSA or IDPA. Or is it not worth build to complete with?

Uspsa single stack. 8 rounds with major or 10 rounds with minor (9mm). I still see a few, generally older shooters who lean towards .45. If I'm generalizing, many of the young guns go for 10 rounds minor

Custom Defense Pistol(CDP) is the IDPA equivalent of USPSA/IPSC single stack major.

You can also run 10 round mags, and shoot Limited 10 major

I shoot USPSA single stack with my 1911 45's. If I ran across the right deal on a 9mm I might get it. CDP in IDPA requires a 45 but it can be a doublestack Glock, S&W, etc. You could download it for a steel match but I shoot my standard major pf loads anyway for more practice for USPSA.

Yes there is. Huge difference in scoring in USPSA between Major (45/40) and Minor (9mm). No one shoots minor (9mm) single stack at major matches in USPSA (at least not anyone finishing at the top). It's just too hard to overcome the points advantage.

Take a look at the 2017 Single Stack Nationals:

1st place through 12th - Major
13th place - Minor

Most shoot .40 simply because they load .40 for Limited Division already. I was shooting .45 looooong before i ever started USPSA so that's what i started with and still use.

9mm has it's place and a LOT of people shoot minor, finishing near the top with some winning Area matches and state matches. Just depends on if the majority of stages are 10rd friendly. 9mm simply requires you to be more accurate. Last two state matches i shot, SS was won by 9mm shooters. They were also very, very 10rd friendly stages. Nats and Western States are NOT 10rd friendly which is reflected in the scores.

I shoot 1911 .45 is USPSA single stack and I just started competing this year. I think it is a great way to get into competing. With 8 rounds you need to be very smart about your stage plan. Good to learn and build skills.

That said, I am also building a Carry Optic based on CZ SP01

Outside of CA many shoot 40. Inside of CA those are hard to come by. None on the roster, STI quit making SS in 40, so the only production SS 40s are Baer (PII is available). In CA that means you have to have one built. I see many more 45s at SoCal matches than I do 40.

Yeah, most reports do indicate that at nationals and some bigger matches they are set up more favorably for major pf. But most regular monthly matches favor minor.

USPSA Single Stack, and IDPA CDP provide ample competitive opportunity.

Have been shooting 45 for a while, started with P-14 now single stack 8rd mags, very challenging for figuring out stage, lots of reloads in USPSA, switching to STI 40 easier on the hands. Try it for a while you will enjoy it and perhaps improve your shooting skills a bit.

USPSA Single-Stack and IDPA CDP divisions are crazy popular. Lots of opportunity to compete with it if you want to.

Yes, but everybody has to download to 8+1 regardless of platform, so a 1911 in no way puts you at a disadvantage.

No, but if you can wait for Shot Show, then you can get the Glock 1911 that is long over-due.

Actually, they said it might be out in two weeks.

LOL! Got tired of waiting for that model Gryff! I was hoping the recent Glock Model 45 would be this fabled beast.. but alas it seems folks have to wait until 1866 more model numbers ; )
