Default Thermal Paper for CC Receipts

For all you B&M stores (or other guys that use thermal paper for receipt):

What brand of thermal paper do you use to ensure the receipts last years in case of audit? E.g., if you had to go back to a receipt to show customer signed how have you ensured the thermal paper still shows the data on it? I know I've gotten receipt from Home Depot, etc.. that don't last more than 1 year at home... I'm considering switching my CC receipt printing to using a thermal printer vs the laser printer I'm using now, but this was a concern.

Any link to good paper on amazon or wherever you're sourcing would be good. I know there's some brands of paper for ATMs for example that guarantee 20 years. I only care about a few years realistically. Is this even anything I need to be concerned about?

Thanks

We just have credit card machines that the customer signs. The industry is now making all signatures obsolete

I've heard that, but on a recent chargeback I was being asked to show proof of signature if I wanted to dispute.

Ours print on regular paper with a laser jet printer.

That's what mine does now. I figured thermal paper would be cheaper in the long run.

You don't want thermal paper copies for long term files. They don't last unless you plan on keeping them in perfectly conditioned areas for their life.

Do not use Thermal Paper, it contains BPA or BPS.

Originally developed as an artificial female birth control hormone. Exposure can result in elevated Estorgen in adults and may have side effects on fetuses.

Why take the risk?????

You won't need it since when you have the CC account that they sign on the machine, its stored electronically in your system. Type in the name and date of transaction and you will be able to print out what you want.

Oh I don't have an electronic signature pin pad. I just have a pad the accepts chip/swipe. I guess I'm stuck with paper.

Understood. If you get one ($600) no need to store the receipts, always available and if you swipe a card, did you know that you lose on the charge back by default? If it has a chip, never swipe unless it prompts you to.

That part I knew about the swiping vs chip. Do you lose by default online purchases too if it's a chip card used online? Sometimes my customers pay on our website and then just come in for paperwork/pickup.

It all depends on how your account is set up.

Most of my knowledge on this comes from my wife who works for a major CC company. She was one of the people who got chip started in the EU.

If your account is an authorized CC portal online, you may not have a problem with charge backs and losing automatically.

If they are just sending you the information and you input that info into your system, you will lose the charge back case.

Stuff printed three years ago is as good as new. Prior receipt paper from Amazon would fade to white in under 2 years.
