I had the burning outfit working today heating up and bending some rebar. I added another 25' section of hose but the 25' section the was part of the deal does have a area that looks... burnt, like embedded soot or something. The hose is OK. With the gauges on the bottles you can check for leaks by opening oxy and acetylene valves on the bottles, let hose pressure up then close the valves at the bottles. If there is no leaks the line pressure gauge will not move. I noticed the funny looking spot on the hose after I bought it... I don't know but maybe...

Does not bother me,like what has been said before, if a milsurp has seen action it adds to its pedigree, like an old race car driven by a known driver. It iz more interesting and valuable as is vs a pristine example.
I have a couple rhodesian fal kits that i know were used in anger and pretty sure know the ethnicity and political backgrounds of the targets.. i look at them as history but i have also been told that to keep them in their original patina would offend certain people or groups because of how used.. definitely used to slot floppies. I replied 'F em,its a tool with a story ,dont like it dont look at it'... If i ever get a chance at a mg42,im taking it,it is an amazing machine gun in performance reliability and actually quite a manufacturing marvel if you dig into them... what used for a d who against is irrelevant.

Doesn't bother me at all. I don't glorify the killing of people, but I do like to think that there was some poor soldier in some far away land who's life depended in the rifle. That's one of my main draws to milsups.

I'd feel great about it. For a few reasons, one is I typically only buy guns that America or its allies uses or used, so any blood on it, is bad guy blood.
It's also good to know the gun has already popped it's cherry and worked as intended and didn't fold under pressure. So I know it won't be "gun shy"! Last edited by hardcore4sure; 09-30-2018 at 2:03 PM.. |

Doesn’t bother me one bit. If anything, I would feel reassured that it worked for it’s previous owner(s) in the time of need.

I have fired the P-08 (Luger); German machine gun from WWII (not sure of model); and the HK-91. It's NOT Nazi, just good German design.

Nope, nothing out of the ordinary, I thought for sure we'd get something interesting, maybe one of those reality TV shows with night vision cameras.

Not sure why people freak out about it. Think about where your money has been. How many of those coins in your pocket do you think have been inside of someone... or something? Still doesn't stop us from picking up money off the ground when we find it.

stick pennies up your bum then release them into the world. after a few thousand pennies, you can be pretty certain that someone in your region that touches coins will have touched one of your *** pennies. and this is why i always wipe down any "new to me" money when i get home.

I have a couple of rifles that bring up the opposite situation--their owners almost certainly got killed, or at least did not survive the war. They're Russian-capture K98 Mausers. As with everyone else, this doesn't bother me in the least.

I bought a gun that was new in the box until the owner fired two rounds from it. One round to make sure it went boom and the next round on himself.

Kinda silly with a milsurp unless you know it has provenance. All my milsurps have been at some point been repaired or retrofitted since their use in war, not to mention all the replacement parts used during. Did the magazine plate kill someone? Did the barrel? The receiver? If only my op rod was present for a killing, is my gun haunted or not?
I'd think it was kind of neat if I could find out a specific battle where a gun of mine was used, but as for kills it doesn't matter much one way or another. Odds are if it was used to kill anyone, it was some schmuck 500 yards away the user didn't even know he hit, and statistics dictate that most guns didn't come back with a kill to their name. They're hardly known murder weapons, and even if they were I don't believe in ghosts. Last edited by Unsilenced; 10-02-2018 at 9:31 PM.. |

Unless there was like an ultra detailed story about this handgun owned by this really really evil war criminal that used it to execute children, only then would I not want to shoot it.
But I'd definitely keep it just as an F-U to that criminal and their cause! |

Bought a winchester shotgun from a buddy in 95 or 96 . His brother in law took his own life with it. I had it for about 2 years and traded it for a 10/22. Up until just now, I never even thought about it being a murder weapon. I never knew the guy.

I really like bayonets! Maybe this is what the OP means, as to the history of the firearms? But my WWII Walther P-38 does not talk to me like this one does...

I have an old H&R pistol that has an interesting history. It belonged to a police officer that had it welded to a metal plate for display. The pistol was used in a murder in Chinatown some time before 1900. Seems the owner chased a dude down the street with it because he reneged on a gambling debt. I guess Chinese gambled a lot back then. So the murderer shot him in the street with it. The police officer got it because he shot the murderer himself. SF sounds like Chinatown was a happening place at the turn of the century.
