Default Accident: Iron Sites closed today

There was an "accidental" shooting on the pistol side today and the RO came in and shut everything down. I was on the rifle range.

They are closed for the rest of today and said call tomorrow to check if re-opened.

On the way out I noticed they had covered all the glass looking into the pistol range. About 5 Oceanside PD cars were there. The paramedics were also there but were outside. A gurney was by the side door with an EMT standing idle. No one seemed to be in any sort of hurry so I surmised the victim did not survive.

Suicide maybe or head shot?

Body can take shot pretty well all things considered.

Or it wasn't that serious an injury/incident?

PDs like to respond to almost everything involving a firearm with more resources than needed. I'm surprised it was ONLY 5 cars.

I saw nothing on the news so it's a mystery. I do know when someone is hurt the EMT's move rather quickly. Everyone was standing around.

Iron Sights seems to have one of these “incidents” once or twice a year.

Really? Maybe not twice a year... but once a year or once every other year is very likely. Can you name a worse range in North County? I'll wait...

Nothing on twitter or the news about it. Usually, there'd be something if there was a fatality.

Next time I go I'll ask. I'll probably get a run-around.

They told me is was a suicide. The guy apparently died in the ambulance. That would explain the lack of hurry. They said if he had died in the range it then would be a "crime scene" and then the range would have been closed for the day.

None of that adds up for me. It's a crime scene whether they die or not. The range was closed for the rest of that day and reopened the next morning.

Not sure how that works in every situation and every jurisdiction. I dealt with one years ago guy technically died maybe on way out the door or right when put in ambulance. A lot of his brains were on the floor.

It happened in evening we closed for rest of that day but was business as usual next day actually was not that big a deal legally or with LE. I also got the gun back eventually. It was a range rental.

Thanks for posting this. I had been expecting to be there this week. I haven't seen it since the remodel.

The rope drags on the targets are gone. I had to wait a few minutes every time for the damn things to stop swinging. Felt like old times there, set your target, go take a walk and wait.

I always thought that was part of the challenge...
