10/22 tactical, modded to zk-22?
Hello,
I recently purchased a 10/22 tactical with 16.12" barrel, and I wanted to buy Red Jackets zk-22 bullpup stock. However, it appears that if I were to use that barrel then I would be creating an illegal firearm since the overall carbine length would be less than 26 inches. Is there anyway around this? E.g, if I were to install a 2" rubber butt pad onto the end of the bullpup, would that make the gun technically legal? I was going to suggest this modification to Red Jacket if possible. Thanks for your input! -James

I've had a ZK-22 on order since Feb. 3,2013. Sent them an email in April and here is their response. I will wait as I can always sell on calguns or gunbroker. Might go with the EAA Appeal .22
Hello, We are currently finishing up shipping orders from the last week of May 2012, and plan on having every stock that was pre-ordered out before the end of July 2013. The order status will be updated once it has shipped and you should receive an email confirmation with tracking number once they go out. We cannot say with certainty when your stock will be shipped but we are currently assembling them daily with bi-weekly shipments, at a rate of 200-500 per week, sending them out in the order they were received. We are sorry about the delay, and appreciate your patience. The ZK-22 stock will not disappoint! Thank you, Red Jacket Firearms

It appears most people just simply buy a longer third party barrel. Look's like I'll end up using this safe solution as opposed to trying to fuss a with flash hider or butt bad sizes. These laws are so silly at times.

I have a zk22. You do need at least a 18-3/8" barrel to meet minimum OAL. You could buy a factory 18-1/2 barrel, aftermarket 20" barrel or aftermarket 16" barrel and weld on a muzzle device to meet min OAL. I believe a permanently attached butt pad will work also but it will be tricky because the stock needs to be separated into two haves to disassemble for cleaning.
A tip for buying the zk22 is DO NOT purchase directly. I brought mines from sportsman guide and it got here in six weeks. Then Brownells got them in stock for a few days on two separate occasions this month. Red jacket is still working on filling orders from those poor suckers who ordered directly during last year's "preorder." If you want more info check out bullpupforums. There's a specific zk22 forum with owners such as myself and Joe is there to answer questions on occasions. There's also another P90 style bullpup from a manufacturer called HighTowerArmory who just started taking orders a few days ago Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Well they're only going to sell what they have on hand and you'll have to get on their mailing list in order to be giving the order instructions. Their mailing list have been opened for a year and I probably got on it 11 months ago. Even when I get the info I won't be able to order because I don't have the money.

BTW if you want to buy a lightly used factory 10/22 18.5" barrel I have one to sell. I went with a aftermarket whistlepig barrel for my build

HTA is going off the interest list that it started early/mid last year. They expect to be store/web front selling in a month or two once they catch up on the list. They are a very nice, well made stock. I'm happy with mine.
Here is a close up of the fake mag. Unfortunately the round are not visible from the side, only the top. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 Last edited by Gregchico; 06-06-2013 at 2:41 PM.. Reason: Picture |

Monorailboy, did RJ do the custom finish? How much did it cost? Looks great. Been waiting since Feb. 2013. Guess I'll be waiting a little longer.

After reading all the failures of the ZK22, I ordered an HTA 90/22.. Purchased Wednesday morning at 4am and it arrived at my door Friday. Took about an hour to put together with a small break in the middle. Would really like to get rid of the longer barrel and pick up a target/bull barrel. Feels awesome though!
