Some were issued from Feb 14-27, 2014. After that...not so much.

So my initial approval has been rescinded, even after a clean Livescan.

Basically my process was as follows:
1. Talked to Freitas at a town hall, he said they were changing their policy and encouraged me to apply.
2. Applied, paying the $40 initial fee.
3. Initial application approved, told to move to fingerprinting.
4. Pay ~$100 for livescan.
5. Livescan done and came back clean
6. Denial citing lack of good cause.

This is frustrating because I wouldn't have paid the ~$100 for a live scan if they hadn't approved me, and the live scan results had nothing to do with my denial.

I contacted the office, they said it was because they couldn't do a psych eval because of the Board of Directors decision. They said their policy has now reverted back to the old way.

I was offered a refund on the $40 application fee, but not on the livescan.

That sucks. Unless you plan on suing them over the ~$100 for the Live Scan, I'd grab the $40.

But what really sucks is Sonoma going back to/remaining restrictive issuance. I guess they think their law-abiding residents are "special snowflakes" -- er, make that just flakes -- who can't be trusted CCWing w/o psych evals.

Funny how CCWers are no problem in the 41 Shall Issue states and Vermont. (11 of those SI states have also passed ConCarry where Right to Keep Arms => Right to Bear Arms.)

Heck, CCWers from the 40+ CA counties that liberally issue CCWs are even no problem throughout CA!

I wish there was a recording of the meeting that several of us went to a couple years ago where Freitas told us that he would only issue a CCW to people he knew, and who had a lot of money. Paraphrased of course, but that was very clear when he explained a situation of one person who he had recently approved a CCW for, who was a friend or acquaintance of his who frequently carried cash on her person.

Are you willing to sue over it? Did they give you an approval of some kind in writing before you did the finger prints?

If you get me your contact info (via a inbox message), I am happy to put you in touch with the attorneys that opposed the $500 fee increase for the psych eval, they may have an interest in your treatment.

I would love to, if we could get a group of 707'ers to go in on it.

Maintain residence in the green county if you "migrate"

The upside is, Freitas will be stepping down, and not running again.
Downside is his replacement will also want his subjects to be disarmed sheeple.

Buy property somewhere in a shall issue county and apply there.

So, so frustrating. I would be able to protect a bunch of green paper with dead presidents on them, but I'm not allowed to protect my living, breathing family.

Nothing. They likely just got in at the right time, when Freitas was feeling...pressured....to follow the law. Now, not so much.

Possible corruption in issuing CCWs is a good reason for convening a grand jury.

The grand jury does the "heavy lifting" so you don't have to!

If anyone in Sonoma Co wants to liberalize issuance of CCWs for that county, check out:

Are those fees excessive? $42 non-refundable deposit for the appointment. $212 total cost + $116 livescan.

Lake seems to a fairly easy county get a CCW in these days. Sounds like the residency question seems to be the issue you will likely face.

For comparison, here is what Ventura County costs.

I may be moving to Sonoma County and want to set up an appointment with the person who handles CCWs and who has a firm handle on issuance. I've had permits from other CA counties for the last 15 years--including red counties--and want to understand my options in Sonoma.

Can someone reply and let me know the name of the right person to speak with in the County Sheriff's office?

Thanks for your help.

Appreciate your opinion calgunner391. However, I currently have a red county permit and want to give Sonoma a try.

Can anyone provide a name of the right person?

Many thanks.

I don't know your situation or how you got a permit in a red county, but there's only 3 reasons (that I know of) that will get you a permit in So Co:

1. Your occupation has you carrying large amounts of cash/jewelry
2. You're a real estate agent showing homes in remote locations
3. You have a verifiable threat of bodily harm

For #'s 1&2, your permit will be restricted to when you are engaged in those activities. And for #3, you would need police reports, restraining orders, etc... establishing your claim.

#1 pisses me off to no end since I/we are essentially being told "things" are more valuable than the lives of my/our family.

The ironic thing is that, IIRC, not a single one of the 215+ examples I have of CCWers saving lives involved jewelers, coin dealers, or pharmacy reps/doctors carrying drugs.

Also, IIRC, only 1 or 2 involved someone who had a prior incident/restraining order against the BG.

That just goes to show you how BS May Issue ends up.

Pizza delivery and other take-out delivery drivers, on the other hand...

It is just amazing to me.... I recently renewed my permit with SRPD and the renewal fee to the PD was only $3.00 (Plus the usual check to DOJ). You are not reading that wrong.... three dollars.

The fees charge by the county are so much more than the city and for no good reason.

Not to mention they'll lead you on with the $40 application fee and a $100 background check only to tell you you've been denied for lack of good cause...

SRPD will actually issue a permit? Did not know that. You don't have to say what it is, but did/do you have an exceptional "good cause"?
