I would say Ruger for several reasons: 1) proven design that is reliable 2) lots of aftermarket options and accessories to build a better gun (sights, trigger, speed loaders etc.) so you aren't dropping so much money all at once 3) last but not least VOLQUARTSEN CUSTOM... when you are ready to get real serious about things, you can turn a pedestrian .22 into a work of art

I've never had any problems with mine either. DA is ridiculously heavy though.

s&w model 41 "best"
so many options, but you need to save some cash up if you want the the "best" just messing around op. as others have said its hard to choose the best gun in any caliber. thats why the make so many versions of each one.....look how many ruger MKIII there are (sadly, not all available in ca due to anitgun politicians & roster) find one that fits your hand, your budget and what the purpose is for. getting a used high standard revolver is great for plinking and teaching about guns. semi-auto is ammo sensitive & finding high velocity is hard unless you pay the horaders/flippers i own several of the models in this thread. I love my mosquito, my MK1 & 2 & 3, s&w 41, as well as the small NAA mini

I haven't found a gun that will outshoot my mark ii but I've only been looking after 25 years.

Thanks... I spent years trying to acquire one. Literally. Now, I seek out the bits and pieces here and there that show up on eBay once a blue moon. I scored some of the factory hiviz sights recently for a pittance as the rear was missing 1 tube and HiViz sent it to me for free. I spent a year tracking down a Speedsec speed holster - got one from a CG member that came in from Europe - as it is about the only legit holster that can hold it given it has those odd charging levers versus a slide as the slide is internal. Mags appear here and there. I have a complete original kit. The last thing I badly need is the extended mag release lever since this uses the more European mag release at the bottom of the grip.

So sad for me.. Went to Bay Area gun vault and they had three buck mark contour 7" barrels. Half way through the dros turns out it's not on roster. Totally wasted my morning. They didn't even know it's not on roster. Blah!

You are looking in the wrong place, just about any of the European target pistols will easily out shoot a Ruger. You might choke on the prices though.

I bought my stainless 22/45 ~ the same time you did. It has the bull barrel. It doesn't have the hideous LCI that defaces the receiver. I HATE the LCI. My 22/45 is perfect for plinking and killing pests. I sold my other .22 handguns; I'll never part with my 22/45. Last edited by riftol; 05-21-2015 at 9:02 AM.. |

Old school: High Standard, but you'll have to be patient and buy it used.
Money is no object: Smith 41 or any of the high end Euro brands (eg Hammerli). Domestic current manufacture: I hear raves about the Ruger, but disassembly and cleaning is a *****. Conclusion: Browning Buckmark shoots well and is easy to breakdown and clean. |

I have a Browning Buckmark Lt. Grey. Accurate enough to shoot out the bullseye at 10 yards. It is one of the more expensive .22lr handguns out there though and it is a pain in the butt to take apart and clean but I've heard worst from the ruger mk III.

what you see on gun broker is available for ppl in the free state. always double check to see if it is listed on the CA gun roster here: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov
if you don't see it listed.. u can't buy it from gun broker or any online site because they won't ship to your FFL. that's why i said the only way to get a off roster gun is either through PPT (private party transfer) or move to a Free State.

Thank you guys for all the advices! I've just shot 300 CCI mini-mags with my brand new GSG 1911. There were no issues at all, and I was much much more accurate compared to Glock 9mm.
Now I'm going to clean it up and try to fall asleep |
