Default Got the AZ permit ( two week turnaround ). What else can I add?

MyCCW app says that between CA and AZ I’m good for 35 states. I play around with FL and UT it seems that they only add one more. Is that it? Have I reached diminishing returns?

You end up with two more.

Florida gets you Florida.

Utah gets you Washington State.

If you go to either FL or WA regularly then go for it.

One other consideration is that reciprocation changes quite often. It might be good to have a backup.

Use my AZ to travel. Last year worked everywhere year before a nogo in Illinois. Next year I'm leaving it home a week in MA RI and CT.

You do have 35 states with California and Arizona. Utah & Florida would each add a state each. The biggest reason I recommend getting Utah & Florida as well is the reciprocity and recognition change fairly often and usually without much notice. Utah and Florida are both relatively cheap and easy to obtain.

Back up reciprocity seems a good enough reason to get more permits.

I’m not getting good vibes on the UT turnaround and the FL background snafu so I’ll toss a coin.

Utah has 60 days to issue from when they receive the permit. They are currently slower than Arizona. Last I heard, they are near the 60 day mark.

Florida has the background issue and they just elected an anti-gun person to run the Ag department (which issues their CCW's). They are running close to the 90 day mark.

I teach both classes so I hear the timeframes from students. Right now, Utah & Arizona are tied for the strongest two permits (most states) that issue by mail.

If it was me, I would get both Utah and Florida as well. In fact, I have California, Utah, Florida, and Arizona. I also have New Hampshire.

I already had the UT permit... at one point they dropped NV so I acquired the AZ permit to cover my NV trips. Later, UT added NV back again so my AZ permit seemed somewhat superfluous because I don't typically travel up the coast.

Then, in 2015 I got sent to Seattle on business for a week. It was nice knowing the AZ permit had me covered.

Once you get them, it's easy to keep them.

I think it was a typo, but Utah covers you in Washington, not Arizona. Nevada has dropped Utah, Arizona, and Florida in the past.

This is good info for me. Most of my out of state travel is in NV. I guess I'm going to try to get both UT and FL as my discretionary funds allow for maximum flexibility. They're all going to ammo right now

Haha, I understand! Mine too! Just a heads up, I am teaching a Utah class in Stanton on the 19th. It looks like you are in the IE...

You can also get a Nevada permit, but the training has to be done in Nevada...

Bckup for reciprocity is a good idea. while CA, AZ and UT are good, I found ID had a little better reciprocity and covered the routes I regularly drive to see family. It just can't be had by mail. For that UT/AZ/FL seems to be the easiest.

Idaho enhanced is the best if you happen to be in Idaho. The training needs to be in Idaho and you need to apply/renew in person.

You also need to go back and pick it up in person as well. So two trips each time. I didn't mind it at all though. 12 days application to approval.

If you have a long trip into Idaho (or do not mind the drive), it is definitely worth getting!

Yes, sorry, I got the two transposed. In either event, I was glad to have both even if it seems like there's a lot of overlap... ending up needing one state I hadn't anticipated that wasn't covered by both.

You can get Arizona, Utah, Florida, Virginia pretty easily through the mail.

If you travel out of state often, I usually recommend Arizona, Utah, and Florida.

Not sure exactly where in the IE you are, but Identigo is a pretty decent place to get both the prints and photo done. Fairly cheap and they use a livescan machine and then print onto the FD 258 card (meaning a much lower change it will be rejected)

Couple notes:

Florida requires a law enforcement agency do the finger printing.

Arizona doesn’t require a passport photo whereas Utah and Florida do.

Great points. Also, keep in mind that Utah only requires one print card (don't waste your money on a second one). Arizona and Florida require two.

Edit: I was wrong about Florida. Florida only requires one print card to be done at an LE agency.

Are you sure about two cards for Florida?

I remembered sending only one for mine.

You are correct about Florida. My mistake. Florida prints do need to be done at an LE agency, though.

Mailed out my completed application, money order, and fingerprint cards on Sat. 3/2, received my Arizona permit today 3/9. Thank you Az DPS for the quick turnaround.

Congratulations can you please share some pointers on what the AZ process is. From what I understand is that except/recognize CA CCW.
I frequent AZ and NZ and eventually would also like to them.

Thanks

@RickRock,
I suspect you meant NV Nevada. If you are applying to ANY other NON-Rez CCW that also requires some type of NRA certified training I would recommend making a trip out of your NV effort, get the training at a certified spot, and then use that for your other CCWs.

I took a CA based one for AZ, FL and UT. Then took an 8hr one in NV @702 Range for my NV permit, also included live fire.

Your requirements may vary but if you don’t want to have to take a class twice, there you have it.

Just received my Arizona CCW in the mail, which that whole process with background checks & everything took a week & a half from start to finish to receive my actual permit.
Still waiting on the email to pick up my CA CCW Permit, which I already finished my 8hr CCW Class/Qualification & uploaded to Permitium on 4/26/19
