Automatic skeet thrower

Hey all, just picked up a new shotgun a few days ago mainly to get back into shooting skeet. Used to do it every weekend till I sold my previous shotgun.

So my question is who here has/uses an automatic thrower? Make, model, features, likes, dislikes, pro vs cons.

I know they get pretty pricey mainly just looking for a entry level model, really just seeing if its worth it over just getting the trusty old hand load and curb stomp thrower. Thanks guys

Yes if I find the time and motivation. But 40 acres of pasture works for now

I use a trap called a "Do-All white Wing". Ive had it for several years and I really like it.
Runs on a 12 volt battery; easily fits in the back of my Ranger. Throws a clay 70 yards!
Holds 50 clays. I have a wireless remote so I can move any where on the field for a variety of shots. I also have an optional attachment that moves up and down and from side to to side which adds more difficulty and more fun.
Best part, for me, is that I can go break some clays by myself...don't need a little guy to throw 'em.
It's great! Maybe sounds like I work for these guys...nope.

Thanks for the info. I remember glancing over this one earlier. As you said being able to go out by yourself is nice. Not likely for me, usually someone wants to roll but on the rare occasion it would be worth it. To hear you've had it awhile too is good, I don't want to drop $500+ for top of the line but I don't want a $100 broke in one weekend POS either.

It's a really good launcher, much better than the manual ones. I've been wanting to get one for a while.

I own the Champion Easybird and I would recommend it to anyone.

I've put 1000's of clays through it and not a single one has broken. It is very heavy duty and should last a long time...but only time will tell. There are numerous upgrades that can be purchased as well, I have added the wobbler kit to it and it adds to the fun of not knowing exactly what elevation the clay will be launched.

I have no experience with the Do-All thrower at all.

If the Easybird is out of you price range, them look into the Champion Wheelybird, which is a more economical thrower that looks good too.

Thanks varmintshooter both of your suggestions look good. Adding the wobbler kit later on is something I'm interested in with whatever I decide on.

I think what the second post was getting at is skeet is different from trap. You want a trap. Skeet involves a field with 2 houses, one is a high thrower and the other is the low thrower almost pointed at each other.

I know you don't really care about the details, but I have plenty of time right now.

I've been using an electric trap for years out behind the barn. Really cool. Runs off a 12-volt battery I have to charge up once or twice a year. Does keep you on th MEC though...and on the hunt for shot!

I have the same thrower with a few factory mods

Mods include the clay stacker extension upgrade that allows you to load around 100 clays at a time. (Cheap)
The electric wobbler package. (Not so cheap)
And the factory cart. (Mandatory for these old bones)
I also installed (welded) a small tool box to the cart. To ensure I had every tool necessary to tweak or repair the thrower at the range.

Now.... Something to think about.

As the shipping costs KILLS this deal for most folks. My throwing rig must weigh at least 140 Lbs+ with the battery attached. FREE shipping made my decision for me.

Now, on to the thrower.

First time out with my new thrower was perfect. I spent the night before it's maiden voyage tweaking it and getting used to the adjustments.
Was fun throwing clays in my garage till 2 in the morning.
I tied 2 unzipped sleeping bags against the inside of the garage door and threw clays against the bags until I was positive the thrower would work at the range the following day. LOL... I am still finding little pieces of clay pigeons in my garage. They blowd up real good against the sleeping bags.
NOTE: Please do try the above at home. It's nutzzz. Way to much fun. Cleanup is a nightmare of sorts. Hmmm. Fun is sometimes dirty.

There is a learning curve to get these throwers to work exactly correct.
Yet once you get set it up correctly. The mechanicals will stay that way for a long time.

I would guess we have thrown over 5000 clays with the thrower. It still works just like it did on day one. Perfect.

And yes this thrower will easily throw 70+ yards.

The most fun we had with the clay thrower was setting up an "Annie Oakley" shoot.

That means you set up the thrower to send clays AT YOU. As in you are the target of the clays. It is fun as hell. And on occasion you need to get the heck out of the way of the flying clays.
As you get better at it. You move closer to the thrower.
Just another Risk VS Reward kind of competition. Way fun.

Thanks T! That's a lot of much needed info. I've done my share of annie Oakley with my friends and its always a blast and always competitive. The part about blowing clays apart in the garage is hilarious as me and a buddy were just discussing how we would probably end up trying to hit things with the trap eventually. I think I have it narrowed down to the do all white wing vs the champion wheelybird. My bday is next month so I think this and a few hundred rounds will be my present to myself. Thanks again guys!
