Default Tokarev C&R?

A customer of mine wants to transfer one of these in: https://www.classicfirearms.com/yugo...a-surplus-9rd/ but I have NO idea if they are C&R eligible or not..... is there any way to tell? Classic Firearms won't guarantee it

If Classic doesn't list it as a C&R (they don't) it probably isn't.

I believe that they were manufactured from 1957 until 1992? so the specific pistol would have to be shown to be 50+ years old to qualify as a c&R.

https://forums.gunboards.com/showthr...Tokarev-Survey

With all the Yugos coming in, I'm starting a survey to estimate production numbers. Please note the following information:

Serial Number (including prefix) - (xx for last digits OK)
# of torches (5 or 6) in the crest (E- and F- prefixes only)

Right now, the date sequence is one of the following:

1957 __ __ (5 torch crests only)
1958 A- __
1959 B- A-
1960 C- B-
1961 D- C-
1962 E- D-
1963 F- E- (5 or 6 torch crests)
1964 G- F- (6 torch crests only)
1965...

Check the grip
FNRJ = Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia = 1946-1963
SFRJ = Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia = 1963-1992 (Socijalistička Federativna Republika Jugoslavija)

Know way to even take a guess without seeing the exact one Classic would ship you, and even then it is a crap shoot. I think the factory records were destroyed by a NATO bombing during the Balkans.

Grips are interchangeable? At best going by the grip, you'd only know for sure if the grip was pre 63 or post 63.

If you are willing to risk your dealer status, based on a 9yr old forum thread that was abandoned by the anonymous 'survey guy' almost as soon as he hit POST, and which never made a lot of sense anyhow or gave any clue as to what the prefixes mean or how they are correlated to a year, other than what one random guy thought or hoped they meant...

then yeah, you could go by that.

Now maybe there is another thread out there that does make some sense, I didn't go looking for one. But that one linked above is a head scratcher. It starts with a guy named 'mupples' proclaiming these prefixes mean these years. Like he came down off the mount with some stone tablets and we are just supposed to go with it.

Lol, I am not giving the transfer the go ahead till I can know beyond a reasonable doubt. Based on all this, doesn't sound like that's going to happen... So I am going to pass on the transfer for this one

ATF needs to give the blanket C&R status to these. Seems like a legit candidate for it...

doesn't classic usually play up when they are?

I bought a romanian tokarev (as a C&R) but I had a wikipedia article to back it up (only manufactured between x-y in Romania). Maybe check wikipedia...

plus; I've never gotten mine to shoot well. My black powder replica pistol is more accurate...
