Marlin: make this gun...I will buy one.
Winchester makes takedown lever guns ($$$), Ruger makes takedown 10/22s and 9mm carbines...how cool would it be if Marlin offered a takedown 336? The takedown shown in the video isn't that complex. How much would this add to the price of the rifle? $200? $400? More? A youth 336 is about a $400-ish rifle. A takedown version at $600 would be just the ticket, I think. -- Michael |

This is the one I want. Just a little bit more expensive than what you are talking about. They also make one in 45-70. There are some other takedown lever guns on the market that aren't quite as expensive. |

A regular 336 is pretty handy. Easy to store behind the seats and ready to go.
I have a 336 W that I bought back in 2000 celebrate W's inauguration. I still like the rifle though, it's one of my favs.

I like your thinking
It's hard to pass up the Ruger. I know it's only a 9mm, but having a pistol and handgun that uses the same mags is pretty sweet.

Browning makes a takedown that takes a magazine so you can use pointed bullets.

Yeah,,, that gun is $3500 ? Kind of overpriced IMHO. I have seen them in person and there's about $200 in new parts and another $3-400 in machine work at the outside.
$600 + the cost of the gun new doesn't equal $3500. Sorry.

For reference, the actual cost of the mod shown in the video is a grand.

Didn't they have one of those " it has to be done by tomorrow" TV shows for a minute?

^ Holy Toledo, Ohio! (or is that Trinidad, Colorado)...
Those are some sweet takedown conversions. Thanks for the link, LBC. Good to know about Lee Hadaway. Those leather bags for the takedowns, too. Amazing!

They did, and then the owner got busted for some sort of nonsense. Don't they make the Happy Time triggers I have in two of my three Marlin 1894s? Jeff Cooper first to0ted their horn in the late '80s or early '90s then included a WWG Marlin 1895 takedown on the cover of his "The Art Of The Rifle", first published in 2002, just four years before his passing. *Moment of Silence*

There's also the Chiappa. They offer a few different models
https://www.chiappafirearms.com/p/id...Down-Rifle.php https://www.chiappafirearms.com/p/id...Down-Rifle.php FWIW, Taylor's and Company also offer the take down guns. I think they're the Chiappa guns, they might have better furniture and actions. I'm a fan of Taylor's and Company. https://www.taylorsfirearms.com/tayl....html?___SID=U

The concept of "take-down" firearms is an interesting study. From more knowledgeable folks, as I understand it the issue with most seems to be wearing of certain parts over time that leads up to improper lock-up. How many times one would have to break the weapon down and put the parts back together before something became obvious could vary depending on the design. The above referenced gunsmith has a good reputation according to Richard Mann, an author and true outdoorsman whom I have had occasion to meet with and converse with personally. Jerry Dove also has his own section on another Internet forum board that is run by someone else whom I totally trust, so I would feel confident sending him something to work on.
Having an optic mounted on the barrel portion of any take-down would seem to be superior, as would iron sights. It certainly seems that customization of firearms to suit individual needs is something that major manufacturers need to get back to. It would certainly make things easier for me. |

Seems like doing this on a tubular mag gun might introduce a lot of unwanted complexity? My Savage 99 takedown is dead simple.

I have a Skinner Co-Pilot (Chiappa) in 44mag and an Alaskan in .357.
Build quality is excellent and they are accurate and run very well.

All 3 guns are very high quality and workmanship with no issues other than a broken extractor with the .22 Cub early on but, Chiappa made repairs under warranty
