Default Is that a banana in my pocket? No! It’s a school bus wheel weight...

Would these be suitable for casting bullets? I can’t find much on the exact antimony composition of them vs clip on wheel weights for cars. I thought I had read somewhere on a forum that these wouldn’t turn out good casts.

I think most all of today's wheel weights are either zinc or steel neither is good material for cast bullets. HTH

They melt, took a propane torch to a piece about the size of a one ounce weight and only took seconds to turn it into mush just don’t the tool to test for hardness. I would like to use this for .357 and 45-70. I’ve never casted but since I have all this lead and if it’s suitable...

California's Lead in Wheel Weights Restriction. As of January 1, 2010, California law prohibits the manufacture, sale, or installation of wheel weights containing more than 0.1% lead. A person violating this law may be penalized up to $2500 per day per violation.

Weasels....

Zinc and steel WWs are the new usual. You may get lucky and find the real deal from out of state but chances are low.

Zinc will melt but it will ruin any lead it is mixed with. Makes an awful oatmeal like alloy that doesn't do anything well. If you can control the temperature better than just whacking it with a torch you have a better chance of telling what you have.

Lead melts at 621, zinc at 787.

Good luck.

How big are these wheel weights? Couple of off top of head tests.

Can you scratch them with a thumbnail? Can you readily "bend them" using pliers if needed. Zinc will snap if bent much at all.

Yeah, it melts clean without extreme heat, no tinge or odor to it. You have a point, could have come off of interstate buses/semi trucks.

Good time to start casting .

melt them in a old tuna can on a camp stove and get a mold and ladle into the mold.

Get lee Tumble lube mold (for 357 cal) so you do not have to size them.

when cast ans cold roll them around in some lee tumble lube and load them up.

read all instructions from lee, that's how I first started out casting with a tuna can on a camp stove with a hand full of wheel weights.

If you do not have loading press or dies use the Lee loader (wack a mole) on you tube to start easy to do google all this that's how I started.

Now full retard have now $1k in reloading stuff.

Believe me, I have truly wanted to cast/load but do not have molds, ladle, sizer, the brass, dies...just been pretty busy being a single dad and doin that stuff called work. I have a Forster co ax, scales, case trimmer, caliper but also do not have a place except for a tiny from yard to melt lead and don’t think the neighbors would like that. Hopefully...someday.

Kudos to you sir. Raising kids is tough enough with two parents let alone one.

My grandkids have been here for 3hrs, I'm ready to shot myself.

Thank you golfish, that really means a lot. My children are my inspiration to finding my full potential and for them I am extremely grateful.
