No gloves, no dirty hands, no shooting off-hand, no lending to a friend, batteries to replace and fail unexpectedly - what's not to like?

When it's reliable enough for the police and military to be required to use it I'll like it. As long as there's no remote kill switch built in.

Maybe be useful for a gun that gets used for home security only. You could leave it in your nightstand when you go to work and not have to worry about locking it up before you head off to work or unlocking it when you get home.

Main concern I see is reliability at that dire moment of need.

i dont see anything preventing someone to just unscrew the grip...wont protect against theft from your night stand

They can't even make fingerprint safes 100% reliable...at least that's what I was told by some guy who sells safes

No thx. My iphone needs to relearn my finger print every 3 months or so. There's no way in hell I'm trusting my life to something that has a very high possibility of failure.

I'll stick with my 4006 so I can dump the mag if I need it to be "disabled".

But it's a 2-part system; one grip is the 'pressure sensor', one is the 'fingerprint reader'. Doesn't have a fingerprint reader on each grip.

So, can't set it up for normal right-hand use, and then use it left-handed: no fingerprint sensor on the other grip.

See the first 30 seconds of the 2nd video.

There's also the one with the watch acting as a RIFD switch.. When it's in close proximity with the watch, the safety is disengaged...

What about a small piece that you can attach to your holster, or a watch, bracelet, dog tags/necklace, That is with the wearer. Only if you have that piece on you will the safety disengage.

Kinda like smart keys in your pocket with vehicles. They seem to work pretty much every time. Atleast with my Mercedes.. My old c6 corvette sometimes I had to shake the keys lol

Rather than keys in your pocket and touching the door handle, it would be this little piece that attaches to your holster, goes in your wallet, attaches to dog tags, etc.. That disengages the safety when you grab the grip.. Patent pending

Again battery and charging is always an issue

The purpose of this is if someone unauthorized gets a hold of your weapon.

Hopefully no one unauthorized gets a hold of anything that could bypass the fingerprint sensor - like an allen wrench.

I'll pass. I'd hate to need to use it and find out the hard way it didn't read my fingerprint. And if the bastard makes noise to confirm, thanks for giving away my position as I sit, hoping the perp just leaves and I don't need to use it. Also, F the RFID chip, I don't want to have to wear a watch or remember to put it on in a home invasion.

Also, I've defeated the fingerprint readers by dusting an item the user touched, lifting the print, printing it out darker and sliding the paper over the reader.

of course there will be

ultimately, an EMP will take out all civilians guns whereas military ones will either be shielded or mechanical

antis like it to do a gun ban

statists like it because it can essentially remove guns in citizens' hands simply through said remote kill switch or EMP

wouldn't be too difficult to build in designed failures after X number of rounds

Um...no. Not interested. If the government wants these guns (print reader, RFID, micro stamped) let them and their security teams use them. I'll stick with my good old fashioned 1911, or an glock, or an XD, or a revolver, or...

That triple retention holster the cop had during the hunt for the Boston Marathon bombers worked. Gun locked into a holster is of limited use.

No microstamping and probably break on the drop test so won't be coming to CA anyway. Besides being remarkably silly.

Yeah, in a perfect world where the things you described are a reality, there wouldn't be a need for guns in the first place.

Why do you seem to be subversively pushing this so hard, by the way?

Some questions I have.

Is it water proof? Most electronics are very sensitive to moisture and I want my guns to be able to work after being submerged in water.

What is the unlock time after it scans your finger print? If it is as short as just one second, it could get you killed in a shoot out.

If you are getting shot at would you remember to scan your finger print first? The answer is no.

How would this work on pistols that do not have removable grips? Like Glock"s, XD's and M&P's.

And Why do all firearms companies use the same stupid overly-load music for their promo adds?

Lol I'm against it too, I think the idea is nice, but the concept, technology, and execution is an utter fail.

The unlock time is a factor too, I didn't think of that..

I guess there is a bill requiring smart guns to be heard soon.. fail!

It appears they are still in "Pre-Order" status. Strange as the patent is from 2011, and the beginning of 2013 they were featured in many places and Shot show where they said they can make 50,000 units a month. Not sure how they are still in pre order stage but something sounds fishy to me.
