If you are buying a 795 at Turners, you have to ask for both mags and ammo at the time of the purchase. They have stuff for gun buyers that they dont display on the sales floor.

I just picked mine from the current Turner's batch. The 2 flat screws on the trigger guard is replaced by an Allen screw.
The staff was very helfpul and friendly, they allowed me to fully disassemble on the counter to check.
So two Q's:
1. Is there any accessories out there to increase stock length; ei thicker recoil pad (not for recoil but to increase length of pull) like the 10/22 without having to get a houges stock?
2. If the screws attach the stock on the receiver; it seems that the barrel is already free floating unlike the 10/22 wood stock with the band connecting around both barrel and stock?
Thanks

I'm surprised Cheap Dirt Bags would sell them to CA. They could after all somehow be attached to a firearm in an illegal configuration.

Yea they have been allen screws for a while now.
1: Sure, Limbsaver and others make slip on recoil pads. (Though I highly advocate getting a Boyds stock, they are really nice)
2: Pretty much as long as the barrel is not touching the forend anywhere. Remeber pressure from holding it with the support hand or a bipod could cause the stock to flex.

Jailed another 795 today! This will be done up in the same Appleseed-style as my new Marlin 60: Tech Sights, future Boyd's stock and a USGI sling.

I've got Tech Sights and 6 more ten-round magazines on the way for my still-in-jail 795. Paid for the mags and sights by selling some gun stuff that was just taking up space.

I like the one I have my M60! I've got the Forest Camo on there. I'm thinking I'm going to go with the Pepper stock for the 795.

What are the advantages of the Boyd's stock? Just got my Turner's bargain 795 and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it.

High quality laminate stock for bargain prices.
Beutiful.
Add's slight length and heft. Makes it feel better all around.
More rigid so the forend will not flex causing inconsistent pressure on the barrel like the plastic stock could.
Metal sling studs (2 in the front in some models)

Pretty much what Chaos said. I noticed more about the balance. When I put this stock on it changed the 795. It didn't feel like it was nose diving. It also looks better lol Mine came with the 2 front sling stud positions. I'm eying the October appleseed at Raahauge's but its killing me that I can not find reasonable priced .22lr.

Thanks guys. I'm not crazy about the basic color schemes but I see they offer walnut for a bit more money. Might get that as it would make a nice match for my M1 Garand and M1 Carbines.

I got to take my new 795 out last Friday and it was flawless for the first 200 rounds. The last 2 magazines had one misfire and a stovepipe after every 2 or 3 rounds.

I cleaned it before shooting by spraying the action with clp and wiping it dry. I did the same after I was done shooting to see if it was just really dirty. It looked almost as clean as before shooting it. The ammo I was shooting was Federal Champion bulk.

Did I just get unlucky with those last 20 rounds I fired?

Just bought my first firearm.

A Marlin 795. I have 3 days left in the waiting process. I learned a lot in the past two weeks. I didn't even know the difference between a rimfire vs centerfire rifle.

Google helped a lot with all the learning. I looked at the Ruger 10/22 and the Savage GXP.

For some reason the Marlin appealed the best to me. I guess it was the price and the reviews I saw on YouTube.

Once I bought my rifle, I get hit with this 22LR ammo crisis. I am here in the bay area and zero stores have it.

I managed to get a hold of 1050 rounds for $90. Federal Bulk.

I don't know much about guns so I hope I can learn a lot from this rifle and forum overall.

Future plans are - sling, sight upgrade or scope, and the DIP trigger set up.

Welcome to the family. Focus on learning safety first.

Ammo prices still lousy. Im looking at a box of 500 CCI, marked $18.95 and it was not that long ago!

My 795 is my favorite plinking rifle, especially after upgrading with a Boyds thumbhole stock, DIPS trigger, Mcarbo springs and a Simmons scope (just because my eyes are old).

It's very accurate and, unlike my centerfire rifles, I can shoot it all day without worrying about how much money I just spent on ammo.

I'll be attending the Appleseed in November thanks to acegirlshusband for helping me out with ammo. As I'm getting ready for Appleseed I'm realizing my eyes are pretty darn bad I don't have to much issue with hand guns but rifle irons (marlin 795) my eye struggles to focus on the front sight well if I get a scope before the Appleseed it will be easier on my eyes.

The dip trigger is working awesome! For those who just bought it here's a tip. Place blue lock tight on the alen screw that is on the trigger guard, before I did that the screw kept tightening up and would cause the trigger to not be allowed to be pulled.

Does anyone have experience with dips pica rail for the 795? I would like to use theirs as it's the lowest dove tail to pica adapter that I had seen.

What power scope do you use to see well at 100 yards?
I tried a 8x and 9x and it was hard to see where I was hitting on the paper.

I was thinking the nikon prostaff efr target rimfire 3-9 x 40. Should be good enough maybe. I usually use my shoot n see targets for .22 or target spots.

You need more zoom and/or a splatter target. With a 3-9x scope and no splatter target, it can be hard to see a .308Win hole at 100 yards.

Ordered up a DIP picatinny mount for the 795 along with burris low rings and a nikon 3-9x40 efr prostaff target scope. Now my marlins ready for appleseed! The stuff should be here in the next week or so, so a quick sight in and the event! I'm pumped!

There is nothing wrong with the tech sights and I will keep them for back up just my eyes are not what they used to be

Picked up a 795 this weekend (thanks for all the info. in this thread). Great gun. Unfortunately I also bought this bipod http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it does not work with the molded sling stud. Any adapter to make it work or should I just return and get something different? Thanks.

You would just need to replace the sling stud with a rail segment. Something like this would work:
http://www.amazon.com/Magpul-MOE-Rai...dp/B003F6EMQO/

Or get the bi-pod made for that type of swivel stud:
http://www.amazon.com/Harris-Enginee...dp/B000JJGXAI/

ETA: that bipod you got looks like it should have come with an adapter that replaces the swivel stud. Did you try that?

Those are NO-GO's.

The sling stud is molded into the stock on the new 795's and it's a funky shape (the front is the same as the back). What really sucks is that weird indent into the stock (opposed to being flush), otherwise you could very easily just shave it off and install a bolt in replacement stud. I suppose you could still do that with a little more work.

eta: Actually, why not just shave the front one down flush and install a new bolt in either forward or rearward of that spot? Yeah, I'm thinking that's the straight forward solution.

etaem: Ooooorrr, just turn it into a SAW like defcon!

What did they do that for?!? Geez, I like marlin less by the year. I would cut that trash off and tap a new hole. JMO. I thought mine were crappy.
