Default Wow... Turners doesn't want my business any longer!

So, I was in Turner's yesterday, and frankly, had a fine experience. I was serviced by a gentleman named "David" and he completed some person-to-person transfers without any issues.

Frankly, I was impressed with how quickly he was able to handle the issues for me.

However, today, I was trying to track down the serial # of one of the firearms I transferred (to figure out date of manufacture), and I was concerned that it might have been written down wrong. It starts with an "L" on the DROS paperwork, but I couldn't find any reference to it online...

So, I called the store and spoke to Larry who informed me that I was no longer welcome to shop at Turners. I've "Had too many issues" there.

My issues were 1) rude treatment by one of the staff about a year ago, 2) issues that they left my ID out in the open and within a week or so after that incident, I had someone try to open a new credit card in my name (my point to them was that they should safe-guard private information), and 3) I suggested that perhaps the serial number wasn't correct as I was having a hard time finding the date of manufacture online. (Turns out I was wrong about it.. The serial number is correct on the paperwork, which means it's a bit of a mystery why I can't find it online...?)

In all cases, the matters were resolved. However, Larry has decided that my business isn't wanted.

All I can say is "Wow".

Corona, off McKinley.

Apparently, demanding actual service from a store that you're spending your hard-earned money at, is a bannable offense.

I was at the Turner's in Corona yesterday. Maybe they hate working on Sunday, I don't know, but I did not feel welcome, and so I stopped shopping and let them move on to the next guy who may be a better customer. The guy seemed miffed that I had "wasted" his time but his attitude cost him a pistol sale. I'll stick to San Bernardino from now on.

Yeah Im too very close to never stepping foot into a Turners as well. The customer service is TERRIBLE. I wish the Turners BigWigs would read this and try to change things.

Also the stores are very disorganized and even had a employee tell me that you wouldn't want to work here.

I attempted to spend money at 3 different Turners locations, all of which was ended with very rude or very inept customer service.

Not defending the glaring examples of their unacceptable service, but I have to imagine that with the record amount of sales and customers, most of which are probably rude and just "stupid" I'm sure they've just about had it and are burnt out. Being in the service/retail industry myself, I know that the customer is our #1 priority, but after 8 or so hours of flipping hamburgers and trying to explain to customers what medium rare means I'm DONE and couldn't care less, lol.

I think people should complain to their corporate office. They may not seem to care, but if enough complaints come through it may force them to reconsider things. Personally, I've had nothing but stellar service from Daniel Kirkman, Russ, Chris, Michelle, 'Flo and just about everyone else in the Kearny Mesa location, and I probably won't shop anywhere else as a result...

It is a sellers market. Gun stores giving bad service is not affecting their bottom line so it is of no concern to them.

Yeah corona turners is a mess. I did a ppt on Saturday and it was balls deep with noobs and panic buyers. I get it, they could care less about my transfer, even told us we had to be outside of the store to exchange funds. Ive never been asked that before.

Like I said, I DROSd 4 guns on Sunday; had no issues. David was fine, gave good service. It took a while to do, but not because he was slow.. DROSing 4 guns just takes time. I was patient the entire time.

It was when I dared suggest they had possibly written the wrong serial # down for an old Colt revolver that they then said that they don't want to deal with me ever again.

When I called today, I was nothing but polite, and was just making an honest inquiry about the serial number to ensure it was correct. They were the ones who gut all wounded and injured because I wanted to confirm the serial number before I wasted 10 days waiting on a gun to be released that was never technically DROSd...

I'm a good customer to places who treat me well. I spend a ton of money at the Apple store in Temecula; they know me there by name. Yeah, I complain if something breaks, but I'm completely reasonable about things. If there's something wrong, I want it fixed.. I don't threaten, I don't yell, etc.. I just want to fix the issue and get on with my life (and buy more stuff).

In Turner's case, complaints, apparently, aren't taken well. Today's phone call with Larry was beyond rude. I was calm, polite and even slightly apologetic for wasting their time to double-check the serial number.

So, I guess Annie's Get Your Gun and The Shootist should be happy -- I'll be frequenting them a bit more often now than I have in the past...

Oh, and Turner's? I'll be happy to accept their heart-felt apology for the way they've treated me today. But, I suspect the odds of an apology happening are somewhere between 0 and none.

Obviously Doc, you have garnered the reputation at that store as being a PITA customer.
Maybe some self-reflection is in order.

Guess so. But, not entirely sure why... Read my post ^^^.

To be honest, if I was wrong, my wife would be chewing me out right now.. She agrees with me. Turner's just has bad service. Cheap prices, bad service.

Bottom line; I'm a paying customer who was concerned something was done incorrectly. I called and instead of just treating me with respect, they yelled at me, were rude, and made a scene.

So how do you justify the way they treat other customers, I think Myks post is spot on, their workload has doubled, maybe tripled and I know there pay has not gone up. No excuse by any means, however understandable.

If you guys need to be quick, Entreprise arms is always able to dros each firearm within 10-15min for me Of course they don't have as much variety, but you could order from there and it'll still cost less!

I was addressing the OP in reference to his original post.
It is not my place to justify anything, but I will point out the painfully obvious for those that endlessly gripe about Turner's.
Turner's is the "Pep Boys" of gun shops. You want a "mom and pop shop" experience, go to a mom and pop shop.
It's a funny thing with Turner's, most of the whiners know damn well what to expect when they walk in the door, yet feel compelled to complain, endlessly, when they receive the attention/service they knew they were going to receive.
It truly boggles the mind.

I expected better to be honest. I didn't expect mom and pop service, but I did expect them to not be rude and dismissive of a reasonable concern.

I am surprised they tracked this in some database to begin with. Did they actually tell you the reasons or are you speculating?

Although my last experience at Turner's (Fountain Valley) was positive, I prefer to take my business to Fowler Gun Room for a few reasons. They usually have everything in stock (before the panic), they do a great job at educating me, and most importantly... they treat my kids with respect when they tag along with me.

I take my business to John at Fowler's in the city of Orange. I always walk away better off than when I come in.

Even though I continue to shop with them, I agree that some locations have some employees with attitude problems... So I doubt it's you, I would write one email to corporate explaining what happened, and then take my business elsewhere until I receive a heartfelt apology. Good luck!

Only rudeness I've ever gotten was at Reseda. Some of the salesmen seem to be those elitists who don't care what you want. Pasadena is awesome.

Not a lawyer. I realized I didn't want to do the job for the rest of my life. So I only did one year...

BUT, bottom line is that I asked a reasonable question about something that I thought (or had a reasonable reason to think) was wrong on the paperwork. They were the ones who over-reacted and became rude.

Bottom line is that I would be very concerned that if Turner's treats me this way when I ask to verify the serial number of a gun that's currently DROS'd and in jail, I wonder how they'd treat anyone else who notices that there's an issue on their DROS form....

Poor service is poor service.

Turners service has always been hit or miss with me.

I can't ever remember them being rude but they have been miffed at doing a PPT a time or two. I have bought plenty of guns and ammo and stuff from them. The problem is they seem to have a bit of turn over in staff so I doubt anyone there would have a clue that I've spent a single dollar there.

Unlike the local Starbucks that has my coffee waiting for me before I get to the register to pay.

I suspect that in the next 60-90 days they will be laying off a ton of staff. No reason to have employees if you have nothing to sell.

I just wished we had the option up in Northern Cal. But it is typical for most businesses unfortunately to see a degradation in their customer service when they are busy.

It's the stellar ones that can manage both. Especially in retail.

Maybe.. But, I'll worry about his "bad day" right after he calls me and apologizes. They know my phone number... (And where I live, my date of birth, DL #, etc....)

I've always had good service at the Corona Turner's from Larry, he is the only guy I deal with there and has provided me with with nothing less than top notch service. I'm sure he is just overwhelmed with all the crazy frenzy buying and phone calls, that'll get to anyone...

Yes, I agree.. But, that's still no excuse to treat a paying customer in the way he treated me.

Like I said above. They have my number.. I'd love to hear an apology. But, I'm guessing that I'll never get that apology... It's too bad really, as David was great. No issues at all with the transfer, other than with the serial number.

Interestingly, I posted a thread on calguns about the serial # (trying to track down info), and it's actually a fairly rare serial number. It actually took a fair amount of sleuthing to find out the serial number was actually linked to the type of gun I had. So, it was entirely reasonable for me to call and verify the serial number as no 'normal' lists of colt serial numbers showed the serial number variation that I had... Had they only just said, "Hey, yep, it's right. We've double checked it and there's no issue." that would have been the end of it... Instead they took the opportunity to berate me about issues I had a year ago (and I thought had been resolved).

Robert is a good guy. I shoot the bull with him when he's there. Except for Robert, all of the sales people that I dealt with in the past are all gone. Even the cashier who has been a fixture there is gone (don't know if she retired).
