tried search for answers but don't think i have the right terms.

so I saw these two style of red dot sights from truglo and couldn't find out what's the difference between these two styles of red dot sights. features are the same but they look different - is one better than the other? pros/cons? Any info you can provide is much appreciated!

The shielded one looks like it would give less glare in a daylight shooting environment, but I honestly can't say I've used either. I have heard great things about the Primary Arms Micro Dot. 79.99 and it was in stock yesterday.

You're right on. Two reasons for the design. One being that the extended walls as as a shade so you will pick up the reticle better in bright conditions. second is to be a blend of tube style and open style. their feeling was an extended housing makes for a more durable sight that is still classified as an 'open' sight.
