What did you reload today?

Oh, I agree that GP11 is pretty darn good. It's match grade surplus! RL17 is the same powder that is used in GP11, so that is the best starting point. You will not find load data for it in any commercial books, but the best place to start is the Swiss Rifles forum. Those guys are experts over there. I was able to run near their max loads without any pressure signs. Nothing they list is a light plinking load and the gun lets you know it. I plan to buy one of the clamp-on brakes to try and tame this thing down. I get far more joy shooting my 96/11 since it absorbs the recoil better. Both guns started performing their best near the top of the load range. Last edited by cwilliams; 09-17-2014 at 1:35 PM.. |

I had the lady reload about 125 124gr 9mm, only about 8 primers were "mostly-seated", the rest were good, this time... She's doing better.
Did some test loads with some loose CCI #41's I had sitting around from the last rifles reloading session in 9mm once again, in case I am ever out of SPPs. (I didn't chrono this time.) Worked well, but I am not doing anything near max loads. |

250 rds of 9mm.
3.9 gr Titegroup, Montana Gold 115 FMJ at 1.150 OAL. I increased OAL from 1.125 to 1.150 since my powder drop seems to wander a tad. (+/- .1 gr in 50 rds, .2 gr in 100 rds or so). I chrono'd these at about 1015 fps which is about the same as Federal 115 FMJ. No where near top of the charts, but good plinking ammo. I'll keep this recipe for a while. Got 10 lbs of powder. Note to self: .380 brass will cycle through the press and accept a 9mm bullet just fine. Check and check your brass a second time before loading. |

Got 44 Magnum setup again with a new mix of dies for 240 gr lead. Loaded a mix of lead Lasercast and Missouri coated, same load for now. I don't know if my 44 Spl cowboy sizer will accommodate the length of the magnum case, but I am going to check that. The bullets are a little oversized, so the cartridges have bullet shapes printing through. The cowboy dies are a notch bigger, but that's only true of RCBS. I am using an M-die, but even it is not anticipating .432-.433 bullet diameter, mostly the Lasercast. I may resize and relube a few and see how the finished cartridges look... probably with a slight crimp adjustment with that change.

You should be able to feel the deference between 9mm and 380 during the sizing.

Prepped 110 cases of mix head stamp 223/5.56 and decided to load 10 rounds late last for plinking loads. 24.4 gr of AR Comp a, 2.200 OAL with 55 gr Montana Gold FMJ.
Need to hop over the 650 and finish my 9mm cases that are clumped on my bench so I can prep more rifle cases. Also, sorted out my 308 cases for test loads with AR Comp and 165 gr SMKs. |

I have been working up loads using Alliant's newly released BE-86 in 9mm. This morning I loaded 50 rounds each of 9mm using 115gr Hornady FMJ and 115gr Nosler JHP over 5.6gr of BE-86 touched off by a Winchester small pistol primer. After shooting hundreds, thousands ?, of xTreme and Berry's tmj's over 4.2gr of Bullseye, all I can say is I am no longer in Kansas, this stuff shoots great! For full power loads I like this powder a lot better than Power Pistol. I have stocked up on 5 # so am good for at least 6000 rounds of 9mm. I am afraid of what Obama may do in the way of executive orders as his presidency winds down so am stocking up as well as I can.
Cheers, W-W
