Default Anyone here that could get a LTC choose not to?

I spoke with a fellow calgunner who lives in a shall issue county who said he has known for many years he could get his CCW permit and has chosen not to. I asked him why but he said he didn't really have a reason- until recently. A family member of his had a "close call" and he said he was now considering getting one. I told him of the long process it takes to get one and he seemed a little regretful he had waited so long.

If there is anyone out there who could easily get a LTC but has not done so I would love to hear your reasoning why.

I'll go first. Another friend of mine has chosen not to get their permit because their firearm handling skills are not up to par and they feel it would be a risk to carry in public. They acknowledge they will not put in the time required to get the necessary training. Although I don't agree with this I appreciated the honest answer.

Everyone comes to guns at different times for different reasons.

We issue here in Orange County but the time required, complexity and monetary investment to get a permit and renew it every 2 years is a big factor for many.

My uncle used to carry. He gave it up after a threat on his life got resolved.

I just talked to him a few days ago and his response was that he recognizes that he has a temper and did not trust himself not to escalate if he was armed.

- My wife refused ccw.

- one day she went jogging and got attacked by 2 pitbulls

- bites and blood on both legs

- trips to urgent care

- few days later she was taking the firearms saftey certificate test and bought an all stainless 640 pro 357magnum hand cannon to wear in a belly band...

- and is applying for ccw

- everyone thinks nothing of self defense UNTIL their 'incident' happens

- I've learned not to judge anyone's reason for self defense

I have a friend in OC who had one years ago. Dropped it after the threat was gone. I recently talked her into getting one again.

Thatís the best reason. Iíve had one for a long time and frankly there should be a lot more training. Iíve been in classes with people that are obviously not ready. I know that the 2nd didnít put requirements for skill and therefore 2A ďpuristsĒ say it should just be automatic. I believe, just personnel opinion, that because everyone at that time was very familiar with firearms for sustenance and safety, they never even considered a country where the vast majority didnít have good gun handling skills.

Several years ago I considered getting one but rejected the idea because I figured if I ever had to use it, even if fully justified and within the law, that I'd have the crap sued out of me and likely lose everything to attorney fees etc. That was before I heard about CCW Insurance. Now I have the CCW (just renewed a couple of months ago) and insurance.
