How many people fit their GC into the area provided on the application vs. providing an attachment?

Mine was five or six pages with the documentation included. Interviewer only read the cover letter, the actual good cause statement.

It was obvious to me they were looking for a simple description of threat of bodily injury or death. Mine was basically three reasons, not sure which one or if all were valid, and I didn't ask.

My statement is posted in the GCS thread.

OCSD must be stocking up the Renewal applications before they start the process.
M4John was lucky , he was the last one to get approved after the freeze.

I think the flood has started and they're dealing with them as they can. This is why they want us to submit 90 days in advance. Those of us who had permits before the SD era remember when it was 45 days before your expiration date. More permits mean a longer approval/renewal process.

Huh? Did you renew in 9 days? Even IF they called and gave you the ok to take your renewal training, did you complete the training and get that back to them AND get a pick up date in 9? That doesn't sound right

Swiftone already took his 4 hour renewal training.
And do believe he already submitted his certificate.
I know cause he was inviting me to take the same re-certification class.
Now, it's just up to OCSD when they are calling for pickup and pay for the renewal permit..... OCSD might start calling closer to the expiration date of the CCW!

Lucky
I'm taking my re-certification this Saturday at FTA with M4John.
And maybe we are lucky enough to get fed lunch with hot dogs again! LOL

Sorry for the edit...no coffee this morning.
Curious... When did your initial expire?

I'm almost coming up on 1 month for submission, no word. I turned in everything at once: application, training, and required documents.

The wait continues.

Took my re-shoot Sunday, take my Class tomorrow night at Artemis, will send in the package by Thursday. Expire in June, will keep you posted on the result, but based on the conversations I have had with the office, I don't expect more than a couple of weeks, although they have plenty of time.

For those of you renewing, did you get your permit prior to Peruta and self-defense?

It would be great to track how many of the permits obtained after Peruta and using just "self-defense" are being granted renewal. I would like to see that success rate. Hopefully they won't be getting denied.

I would say a MAJORITY of those renewing are from the Peruta, "self-defense," basket of applicants.

I haven't heard of any renewals getting denied, so far. Articulation of good cause other than SD is required, though.

Thanks. Is it true that they are quite lenient in what they're accepting as GC? Is something along the lines of "In light of San Bernardino and other threats to public safety, I seek a CCW for the protection of myself and family" acceptable?

The only people who know what the threshold for good cause is is OCSD. However, a well articulated good cause statement hasn't led to denials, yet. At least not that I've heard of on Calguns, the range, classes, etc.

Work at night? Commute long distances? Documented threats? Carry high value items? Disabled person? Medical condition? etc. From what I've been told/read/heard, anything other than "self defense" has led to (re)issuance.

There's been a handful of renewals that originally used SD and have been recently approved. Besides, the threshold for new applicants and renewals is the same. As mentioned above, just be able to articulate a GC and you're GTG. We haven't heard of new applicants being denied so i can't see a reason why renewals would be.

I wrote "see attached good cause statement". I did keep mine very short, they don't want your life story. It's just about policy anyways.

Just make it 2 paragraphs, don't make the LT read a book. They just need something decent, more words doesn't equal more reason.

Mu license expires mid June of this year.
Received conditional approval a few weeks back.
Took qualifier on Sunday and emailed the doc on Monday and requested an
appointment.

Received an email back saying that since there is much time left before expiration, they will contact me at a future date regarding an appointment.

This happen to anyone else?

Seems like OCSD will start calling closer to the date of CCW expiration.

We sent them in 90 days ahead of time. It's way too early to be calling and bugging them.

I wouldn't bug them at all until you start to come close to your actual renewal date.

They are busy, but efficient.

Let them do their job...

I didn't read the last two pages of this post, so maybe been covered but if not...
I previously had a ccw under SD. Time to renew. I sent all paper work via email at exactly 90 days before expire date and received a confirmation of receipt of my app via email the next day. My GC was concise, deliberate, and short. Roughly 2 1/2 paragraphs, fit on the page 10 provided, although I did supply a separate signed version as well. Any way, got conditional approval 10 days later via email. I just need to do the 4hr class and send it back. The email said to fax the proof of 4hr, but I'm sure if I email it that will be fine. I emailed everything else.
