This little kit contains all the hand tools needed to load ammo, except the soft faced hammer to drive the cases into the sizing die, deprime, reprime, seat the bullet, and crimp. Mine came in a cardboard box, but nowadays red plastic is used.

A plastic dipper was used to measure the powder, usually one brand and type. Which soon had me wishing for a powder scale. The process was slower than a glacier, but the ammo was accurate with a Speer half-jacketed bullet.

Today I have an entire room dedicated to loading with four presses, and over 100 die sets, and every specialty tool made, chamber matched wildcat dies and stuff I don't remember I own, but nothing seems as interesting and satisfying as those early rounds cobbled together with rudimentary hand tools. Now loading seems a chore leading to sore fingers and hands, back then it was an adventure that built confidence.
Dang! I forgot all about those. I have one also in my shop. I really forget what cartrige it's for. I'll find it and re-post. I do know mine is indeed in a cardboard box. Good call Wrangler.
Found it. It's for a 30-30! As I already had the press, this must have been a gift? But, it has been used. All the tooling have "work" marks and powder scoop is darkened from dipping into powder. Scheese. Totally forgot about that little endeaver. That baby is going on a display shelf. Stoked.

44mag.

It was the only way to get the Desert Eagle working reliably without spending $1.50+ a round for factory ammo.

I reloaded a lot of .38 Special and 45ACP when I was shooting my Dad’s handguns before I was 21, my first handgun purchase was a blued Ruger Redhawk with rings, .44 Mag. was the first handgun cartridge I reloaded for my own gun, mostly 240gr. lead flat nose pills but I also loved the 200gr. Sierra JHP and loaded them hot and fast.

back .

With nephews and nieces , sometimes everything is in use .
Next month going to Reno for wife's Birthday and will probably pick up
more primers and powder .

Started reloading 6.5 x 257 when 9 , old tong tool. Moved up to 45lc , cost and wanted more umph , now reload for anything and everything I own from 22lr to 45/70. Had to move to a bigger place just to keep all my stuff

And then the casting started ……….

12 gauge, because I was shooting a lot of trap at the time, and was burning through shells at a furious pace. I was using a Pacific DL-105 at the time, and if I didn't hit any problems I could reload 1 box every 20 minutes or so. Reliable press, but slow.

Glommed onto a MEC 650 progressive, and things were much better. Good thing too, because I dropped trap in favor of skeet...... WAY more fun, which resulted in much higher consumption. Don't shoot a ton of shotgun any more, but still use that MEC for reloading. Comes in handy for dove season.

Discovered IPSC around 1994 or so, and bought a complete Lee 1000 setup in .45acp from Midway for something like $104. Literally ten's of thousands of rounds through that press, and still going strong. Still bolted to my bench, and still dropping mas quantities of ammo. I have gotten a ton of "bang for the buck" out of that $104 investment over the years, and I am still loading with it. Fantastic value.

Geez, started probably 25-30 years ago with 38 special for my Taurus revolver. Started with a Lee Anniversary kit that carried me through many years. Lee dies and some 158 gr SWC's I purchased.

Funny thing is that I still have the some powder left in that 1lb jug of Clays that was sold to me with the kit! Shortly after I started loading I got an 8lb jug of AA#5 so I'm still trying to use up that Clays!

9mm here. Poor college student. Started with a Lyman 310 tong tool. Sizing 9mm was OK but when I started .357 it was a bear. Graduated to a Rock Crusher, thought I was in hog heaven. Fast forward 30 years, still have the Lyman, the Rock Crusher and a Dillon 550. Oh, and 10 more calibers.

In 1972 I was 17 yrs old. My Mom sent my older brother with me to buy my OM Ruger Blackhawk ($109) in 45lc. I bought the gun and everything (RCBS) I needed to reload for it. I still have everything and now a whole lot more.

Built a precision 300 win mag Rem 700 in 2013. Quickly was not satisfied with factory offerings. Wanted to shoot 190-200gr pills.......

.........Amazing how 100 rounds eats up a pound of powder.

45acp about 1985.

A friend had a Rock Chucker and accessories but had not set it up. Helped him set it up; he started some 9mm and I got a set of 45acp dies. Got him one of those 80's progressive "upgrades" even....

I got my own stuff a year or so later.

I liked it because it was fun to work up the loads. Same reason I like cooking; fun to play with different recipes, and make own recipes.

My first was a .44-40. It was 1963 and I was 14 years old. My neighbor across the street was a biker who owned a restored Model 92 and was into reloading. He was also the one who taught me how to shoot after I got my first .22 rifle at 13.

Twelve years later I split the cost of an RCBS RockChucker with a pal and we loaded .38 Special, .308, and .30-30. He later got divorced, I bought him out, and I've been using the same press ever since.

Now loading: .45-70, .45 ACP, .45 LC, .41 Magnum, .308, .270, and .223.

30-06 was my first, followed by 9mm, .44 Mag, and finally .50 DTC.

I loved my M1903, and thought it would be cool if I could get some half inch groups with such an old rife. Loved the art involved in taking a crappy old tarnished piece of brass, making it look brand new, and getting good groups with it for the same price as steel cased WOLF ammo was a big plus.

I'd been collecting brass for a while by this time, and finally decided to go for it.

I started reloading after picking up a Ruger Vaquero in 45LC. The ammo was just too expensive and had limited availability. At the time, I had other guns and shot often but I was okay with buying ammo OTC.

I had several brothers and family members who already loaded that I used for guidance. Started on a Rock Chucker to learn and then moved up to an XL650. I was content with the Rock Chucker for the 45LC but it didn't cut it for 45ACP.

I now reload for pretty much everything I shoot but it was the 45LC that got me started. I'm sure it would have happened eventually but this was the catalyst.

1St round, as a kid, at my neighbor's on my block. My parents went hunting elks with them.
It was lead, wax lubed, and I want to say it was a .357 magnum.

30 or so years later, it was 9mm Luger and .223.

Why? Because I saw all the violence Democrats cause, and knew I might need more than I could buy retail...

.40 S&W for me in 2012. It was my only pistol at the time, I wanted to go shooting with my brother in law and hadn't bought ammo in a while. When I went to buy it all I found was empty shelves. I bought some factory ammo from a calgunner, sold my dirt bike and bought my Dillon 650. I quickly added a rockchucker and started loading for my .30-30 as well.

Now I still have those presses but added a 1050 and co-ax for my rifle stuff. Haven't ever been into shotgun loads but I have a Mec 9000H hydraulic setup I picked up dirt cheap that I'll get to trying out one of these days.

Dad got us into reloading the 357 and 38 sometime in the 70s, and it' been downhill ever since.

For me, it was 10mm.

I had many other pistols and calibers, but the 10 pushed me over the edge. I wanted full house loads but didnt want to pay underwood/buffalo bore prices. Since then, I now load about ten or so different calibers and well over 20k rounds per year

In 1997 is started to load for the 45/70 after buying a Marlin 1895SS. Factory ammo was loaded to trap-door pressures and Garrett ammo was too expensive. I wanted a low cost thumper. I bought a Lee Anniversary Kit and never looked back. I now load for 12 calibers.

44 magnum, to feed the Ruger SBH I bought myself for my 21st Birthday. Used my dads 1962 Speer reloading manual, 23 gr of 2400 with Speer 240gr soft points. Good times. Heck I still load everything on that old Pacific C press. It might be near time to upgrade.

.38 special. Why; because it seemed like the easiest/safest for a newb using a progressive press. First cartridge came off on 3/14/15 at 4:03PM. I didn't save my first dollar made, but did save my first cartridge made.

Why I got into reloading is because ammo was scarce, what I didn't know 'till after I bought the press and related necessities was that components were also scarce, but I managed to get enough to get started. I now shoot reloads almost exclusively from .25ACP to .338WM.

.38 Special. I started competing in PPC and found I needed lots of ammo. Later .45 ACP when started shooting USPSA. Ammo cost was the first reason for reloading but later learned to enjoy just the effort making quality ammunition.

9mm. Mrs slayer & I shot up all our ammo during a range trip & joked that our pistols would have to be used as clubs at home if we had an invader.

500sw. why? to feed my 500. no brainer. single stage setup paid for itself immediately. I knew i eventually do other calibers but i didn't shoot much back then so buying factory ammo wasn't too bad. Now i reload everything. haven't bought a factory round other than 22lr in years.

I saved my money and I bought a RCBS starter kit from Gemco in Southeast San Jose with a RCBS Jr. press, .30-30 WCF dies & shell holder, case lub and pad and a small paperback reloading guide, my Mom chipped in and bought me a 5-0-5 scale, a funnel and my first components. What was the first cartridge or shotshell you reloaded and why?

40 S&W because that's what the Lee Loadmaster kit came with and at the time was the only cartridge myself, my dad and brother all shot in common.

.38spl in 1974-ish, I had a old S&W Model 14 that I picked up at a garage sale, yeah legal in those days and got a Lee Loader, I hammered maybe 50 rounds with it and decided to sell some stereo speakers to buy a Rock Chucker. Then I got my S&W Model 66 a few years later and loaded .357. Then... well thousands invested in dies, tools, 4 presses, yup, I saved a lot of money reloading, I am sure of it, uh uh sure I am.

I am fully addicted to reloading, my friends joke that I only shoot guns to use up my reloads and I have actually bought some dies of a caliber I didn't own a gun in and was forced to buy a gun because of it.

38 Special. Straight walled case. Plenty of brass and bullets available. Lee Carbide dies. Easy peezy. I have a 442 for pocket carry and a rifled shotgun adapter for single shots. So it became my new .22 in a sense.

I could practice with the snubby and plink with the adapter for cheap.

30-06 I had just bought a Golden State Arms on a Mauser 98 action from Sears. I wasn't old enough to drive at the time so I went to the LGS on my bicycle to get my press and accessories. C-H C press and dies, Redding scale and powder measure. I just read a Lyman manual and started loading. Sierra 150 grain flat base spitzer, CCI primers and IMR 4320. This was in 1960 or so.

Ok, I'll chime in. My first gun purchase was a Browning DBA .380. No need to reload for it as it was primarily a defensive gun. Then I purchased a nice S&W 686 (.357/38 cal.). So, I started reloading so I could actually learn how to shoot better.

I purchased an RCBS Rockchucker, scale, powder, and dies. Single stage loading was laborious but fun in my spear time. Now things are much different and I shoot exponentially more in many more calibers.

When I was about 16 in the early 70's, joined the Rod and Gun Club and they let me use their MEC stuff to load 12 gauge. I had hunted doves and rabbits before, but a friend in our group had just gotten a very nice and very expensive Winchester Super X autoloader for Christmas, iirc. So 3 of us started hunting skeets and loading and throwing darts and generally lying about at the Rod and Gun.

I started with my own equipment several years later loading .357 Magnum. That ammo was very expensive back then (no mail order) and shooting full power loads wasn't really fun. I bought a Lee Loader as mentioned above, powered by a plastic mallet. Then a year or so later, picked up a Model 29 and another Lee Loader in .44 Magnum. One of the first tools I bought was a powder scale because I didn't trust those plastic scoops. My first actual press was a Lyman Turret press that came in a package with a powder measure, scale, case trimmer, dies, and a bunch of little stuff like funnel, deburring tool, etc. This package normally sold for $150 and I got it on sale for $80.

Sold the turret press, still have the Lee Loaders (I think).
