LIFE MEMBER. Although it is impossible for one organization to be all things for all people and I don't always agree with their position on all things, the NRA is nevertheless a stalwart supporter of our Second Amendment rights.

Sorry you missed the offer. It was a $300 life level upgrade offer, expired end of Feb/early March I guess. I will post again when it is available.

The give away stuff is generally always optional. So you can choose to not take the jacket, pen, medallion, pin, hat, etc., etc. The NRA ILA sent out return address stickers that I loved and I sent them 30+ dollars for that gesture. I place that return address label and a Chuck Heston stamp on my letters to elected officials.

Next time there is a deal I will PM you. And post here, as well.

I hope nobody flames me for this but no I'm not a member. I've thought about it but from the reading I've done online about them I'm a little iffy.

Can somebody tell me why they supported the Gun Control Act of 68"?

By the way I like that cute little name, "Gun Control Act". Pretty obvious when you hear it.

Memberships that I'm joining soon,
Gun Owners of America
Second Amendment Foundation
Oath Keepers
CPRA

And others to follow, I'll probably end up joining the NRA aswell. I really don't have anything against them.

I'm new to CalGuns but old to guns and the NRA. First NRA card in 1972/3 became a Life Member in 1979. Also have a NRA Visa card.

I do not always agree with some of the concession they've made. But overall, where would we be without them? We would be Australia or the UK.

First let me say a lot has changed since 1968. Also you need to remember that John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King were all shot. LBJ was President and the NRA made some concessions because the members were hunters NOT 2nd amendment folks.. They were the NRA of that era, they are not today's NRA. Back in 1968 it was a hunters membership of less than a million. Today it is a 2nd amendment org 2 levels above the rest. 5 million members strong. The BIG gorilla in the room.

"All that changed in 1977. That year, the leadership of the NRA decided to retreat from political lobbying and refocus on recreational shooting and outdoors activities. This sparked a backlash among a group of hardline gun rights advocates who were upset that the NRA had endorsed the Gun Control Act of 1968 -- the first significant federal gun legislation since the 1930s. Motivated by the belief that guns weren't primarily for hunting but for personal protection in an era of rising crime rates, the hardliners staged a coup at the annual meeting of the membership, ousting the old leaders and committing the organization to political advocacy.

From then on, American Rifleman featured the Second Amendment on almost every other page.

Next time someone complains about that a modest gun law tramples on the Second Amendment, remind them of the old NRA -- and of a time when even the nation's leading gun rights advocates supported gun control.

2014 ain't 1968, or 1934.

I just signed up a friend "Frier Tuck". he just joined the NRA.

A preacher and a x cop, a good man..

"Hey Tuck- I will buy you a coffee and a doughnut- if you join the NRA"

Done deal..

My other pal will get a 6 pack of beer and get to go shooting on me. He says he will join soon.

Sometimes a little extra motivation goes a long way.

Remember..

"Every time someone joins the NRA- a Bolshevik pisses their pants"

I want to join as a life member, but I have heard they do run some pretty good specials on that.

Does anyone know when they'll run the next event?

The best deal is at the NRA convention, you can get great upgrades then. But there is always a offer coming.

I was an NRA member for years before I even owned my own firearms. I upgraded to Life Member after purchasing my first firearm, and have since upgraded to Endowment Life Member, then to Patron Life Member, and I'll likely upgrade to Benefactor Life Member at some point.

Yah, I don't agree with everything they do, but I don't agree with everything ANYBODY does. Overall, the NRA is doing a lot to preserve our 2A rights, and with wealthy people like Bloomberg and others putting up millions of dollars to take away our 2A rights, the NRA and other similar organizations need our help now more than ever before.

That is the same price as the distinguished life membership. I called the NRA to see if it was legit and they had no idea about it. They told me to call back in the morning to the main customer service line to see if they could confirm it or not.

I just upgraded to Benefactor for $300 using the add in American Rifleman magazine. I was sent a request to join the Golden Eagles, but I could not make that commitment yet. I won't change my below Patron pin until it's confirmed on the NRA website.

Maybe next year.

It's legit. I think they have a sale on Distinguished as well !

But I don't care about it as a status. I like to let people know I financially support the cause. The total is always growing. Some give more, some less!
