malingering POS rant update
Im at the dog park, and two guys come in wearing wounder warrior and a glock shirt....so im like cool i can talk to my fellow service members. I reconginze one of them as a junior Marine in my platoon over 4yrs ago...the thing is...he never deployed or did anything as far as i know...after his boot camp and SOI...he came to the unit "broken" . Barely went on any tranung ops, if he did he was the radio watch with the hq platoon, because he was on light duty....
Im pissed off that hes wearing a wounded warrior shirt and probaly has people come up to him and thank him for his service...even though he didnt do a dang thing... cool you completed boot camp and SOI..in my opinion you dont rate to wear a "wounded warrior" shirt or even be a part of them...thats the kinda of crap that pisses me off...when i came back from afgab and went to soi as a duty station, wounded warrior would come over and give some.of the Marines a moto speech, listening to half of them pissed me off even more... I guess being combat wounded is a whole different thing.from pulling you hamstring in the US and being a baby back ***** OP if you wish to rant that is fine, but please do it in a more calm manner on the forum. And don`t try to defeat the word filter. Big103 Last edited by big103; 08-11-2014 at 11:29 PM.. Reason: cleanup |

I've seen civilians wearing Wounded Warrior shirts... I thought it was a fundraising type of thing... aka, x% of shirt prices go to the foundation and wearing a shirt is more a sign that you've donated/supported the cause... as opposed to wearing the shirt = combat vet wounded in action.

I thought the wounded warrior shirts were bought and worn in support of just that , wounded warrior. U never once that a wounded vet would wear a shirt saying hey look at me I'm a wounded vet. Or am I wrong. Being deployed twice I can honestly say I'd wear the shirt to support my brothers in uniform.

no im fine with civilians wearing the shirts....hell I see people around where I currently live with shirts with my old units emblem on them...I ask "who is in your family in 3/5?" they 99% of the time answer, "oh we just support them, at the community center" im fine with that and other people supporting wounded warrior...my gripe is that POS wearing it even though he never left the States to defend the freedoms as the service men and women took an oath to do....

I am not really a huge fan of the Wounded Warrior project when you take a look at their numbers compaired to DAV, or Special Operations Warrior Foundation, They are just a for profit company.

Yeah the Wounded Warrior T-shirt wearing isn't exactly Stolen Valor, Devil. If he's talking about killing bodies in Fallujah and patrolling the Wardak Province…well, that's another story...

ok so your not offended if some random person wears an old unit shirt??? they have not affiliation with that unit or even know what its about? someone who was not combat wounded, but gotten hurt because hes a weak b**** and broke his own leg cause he didnt drink enough milk as a kid??? they should rate the same as a combat veteran?

Yeah, I think you totally miss the point of those shirts. It's nothing like wearing a unit shirt for a unit you were never in, much less an award you didn't earn or anything like that. It's just like wearing any fundraiser T-Shirt ever. All it says is "I've contributed to this cause in some way". It has nothing to do with actually being combat wounded.
I mean, if I wear a breast cancer awareness shirt, would you get mad at me for posing as a breast cancer survivor?

Honestly I think you are making a bigger deal than it needs to be. Its not like he was spouting off to the other guy about how wounded he was or that the WWP gave him the shirt due to wounds he sustained in combat. Sometimes dealing with people in the military, we deal with Dirt Bags, its the nature of the beast. Sometimes we just have to shake our heads and walk away. Crack open a cold beer, sit down and enjoy the fact that you got to serve your country in a different way than the guys you saw at the park.

I guess it's kind of like wearing a bands shirt that you've never seen in concert. Although you've never actually supported them, you still enjoy their content or like what they do. You want to spread the word or support them through "word of mouth"... I guess.

You have a personal problem with the guy. Got it. Sounds like he's probably a ****bag. That doesn't make him a poser though, at least in this case. If he bought the shirt, he contributed. Period. Sorry.

We all signed a blank check to the govt. Not everyone is going to run 6 minute miles, 20 pull ups and 200 sit ups. It seems you are angry over something you shouldnt be.
I didnt serve over seas or in combat, I was one of the lucky ones who didnt get blown the F up, I did lose friends and think of all of them and others I dont know and thank them. Dont hold a grudge and go live your life.

Just FYI Wounded Warrior Project made $143,772,582 in 2012 and only about 1/3 of that money ever went to a veteran $55,386,953 to put that into perspective for every dollar you give them only about .33 cents make it to a veteran program. Compare it to an other organization like DAV http://www.charitynavigator.org/inde...9#.U8_hRoBdVd8 For every dollar you spend about .93 cents make it to a veteran program. Special Operations Warrior Foundation http://www.charitynavigator.org/inde...4#.U8_hR4BdVd8 For every dollar spent about 84.5 cents make it to a veteran program.

just wondering but you touched on the part of wearing a units shirt... how would this go?
my brother in law was part of the 3rd ranger battalion before he got out. while he was in he bought me a sweatshirt that has a small ranger emblem on the front. i wear it sometimes and have never claimed to be in or part of the military, i just wear it to show support for the military and my brother in law. dont want to look like a douche... |

The tab doesn't make you a Ranger, just means you graduated the school. I don't really see a problem with it. Now a shirt with a scroll on it I could see some issues.

Just a personal thing for me. Unless I went through Ranger school, I just would not feel comfortable wearing the shirt.

The head of WW foundation makes six figures. In my opinion, they're a profit company that uses our wounded veteran as a mean to get money, which is a damn shame. I personally support local organizations and I can actually see where my donation goes.
As for your "poser" friend, I think you're making a bigger deal out of this than what it really is. I know a lot of **** bag Marines who would skate the **** out of working parties, get fat, malinger, and the moment they come out of the Corps, they become super moto and they do mud runs. Some will even guilt their fellow platoon mates into doing mud runs, or else they don't support the troops. I say let this one go, it ain't worth stressing. He's not exactly stealing valor either. He wants to wear a WW shirt so he can impress people. Good day to you, Marine. Semper Fi to all of you
