Trading 9mm. 40 and 45 brass????? What is fair???
I am going to trade some 40 and 45 brass for 9mm brass.
What is the general rule for trading brass in amount of brass? 5 gallon bucket of 9mm for 5 gallon bucket of 45 or 40??? What is a "fair" amount of 9mm brass to ask for when trading 40 or 45???? |

I prefer weight. Pound for pound. Volume changes too much with case sizes. If it was a one gallon bag sure I'd probably let that go for the convenience. But if its pails pails I'd stick to weight.

On common stuff like that, equal weight for equal weight.

why not one for one? If you need 9 and someone else needs 45...why should you give out more than them or vice versa.
I get the pound thing but if both in need of something different, that only seems fair.

Because it's easier to weigh than to count.

"why not one for one? If you need 9 and someone else needs 45...why should you give out more than them or vice versa. I get the pound thing but if both in need of something different, that only seems fair." 45 costs about twice as much as 9mm or 40, so 1 for 1 isn't quite fair. Pound for pound is an easy method, but it isn't quite fair either since the values of a pound of brass varies by caliber. Here are the amounts of each per pound: 9mm - 113 pcs / lb 40 s&w - 101 pcs / lb 45 ACP - 78pcs / lb So if 9mm or 40 costs 2-3 cents per case, then a pound would cost about $2-$3. However, 45acp costs about 5-6 cents per case and a pound would cost $4-$5.. So the best way to do it would be to weigh the cases, estimate the count, then convert the quantity to dollars for an even exchange. |

What's "fair?"
If I have a pound of brass I won't load what could be more fair than swapping for a pound of brass I WILL use?

Assuming both calibers were only once fired? Crimped pockets? Deprimed and tumbled? Case manufacturer? All that would make a difference to me.
Not sure about 9mm brass but for rifle brass - Lapua goes for about 3x Remington. |

Is the brass you have-
Fired 1x Fired and reloaded 5x Range brass stepped on All one headstamp - nickel plated LEO range day pickup Mixed and random head stamps S&B, fiochi, rem, nato, pmc Does brass all have same pistol primer pocket? Some ammo can come with both large pistol primers and small pistol primers. Is there blazer Aluminum cases mixed in with the brass? Steel cases? Is the 9mm striped from an H&K and maybe stretched from a large chamber? All things considered unless it is specialty brass - pound for pound works But I would sweeten the deal as 45 Ammo is more expensive than 9 Specialty would be 7.62x25 5.7 .458 socom 10mm 44 mag

How about you fill a large flat rate usps box full of 45 acp. Mail me two of those and I’ll pay pal you a nice chunk of change. I don’t care to give up any of my 9mm brass.
