Default Federal 3" 000 Buckshot 12 "Leaking" White Grains?

I bought 2 packs of these shells (10 Shells total) and so far they're all leaking this white grain sort of thing that kind of looks like little grains of sand. I have about 50 rounds of Remington and Winchester 00 Shells and none of those have been doing this.

Is this normal? What is it anyways? Should I still shoot these shells?

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about.

It's shot shell buffer. I wouldn't worry about it unless it is real bad.

No reason to worry.. they put that in there to protect the buckshot and it is supposed to improve your pattern..

As others have posted, it is the buffering material, placed there to help keep the shot protected dring it's ride down the barrel, improving your groups.

Lately I have had some problems with Federal Shotshells. Yesterday I had a couple near squibs when shooting some 20ga #2 Buck, rounds that were so light the hull wasn't ejected from my autoloader and much unburnt powder remained in my barrel. I also had a few high primers with some Federal 12ga Low Recoil 00 Buck.

Maybe they have a new crew trying to come up to speed on the line.

If it's leaking from the crimp then you can put a dab of clear silicone to seal it.

Seal them with wax or call Federal, no use having the buffer get into your guns mechanicals.

Unless you bought them from an DEA group buy, in which case they are PARTY shells!

Okay all joking aside. If you are worried about losing it you can go to a reloading place and prolly buy more of it. It is a buffer and I noticed it when I picked up some HUGE reloader at an estate sale. There was among the 12+ LBS of powder they gave me a white bottle that said something like Federal shot buffer. When I looked at it I realized it was shot buffer. You do not really need it but they think you do so they included it in the shell.
