I don't get "mill bastard" but we do have a 4yr old, a 3yr old, an an infant in here a LOT. No matter that we have 40 employees now we still have the values of a family run business that we had when there were 3 of us. We are a family run business though.

I used to joke that we need an in house daycare bay, it actually was not a joke.

We get blemished forgings in every box, maybe only one or two out of four hundred but we still get them. We machine them and put them in boxes to be sold as blems later. When I saw them stacked to the roof we had a fire sale.

Will we have more blems, yes. Will they be $39.99, doubt it but you never know.

By the way guys thank you for the response to this sale, we broke a company record for most receivers sold in 24 hours.

I called and spoke to Darren SR about that for a WHILE when I got home last night.

I would not count on it though as we do not get that many blems every month, this was many many months worth. We get over 4k receivers a month (lowers only) from cerro and brass aluminum. Most months we add extra too. There are not that many blems to warrant this type of sale that often, plus this was seriously under cost. It was so cool though to do. We like to hook up the community when we can.

We do a few thousand uppers a month but do not run into the same forging issue that we run into with the lowers. I never even thought of that till I read your post.

You need a jig to finish the 80% on a CNC. They also make drilling jigs

the jig is to help you drill out the pocket using a drill.

you do not need a jig on a CNC. Side plates may make your task easier, but not needed. Top plate is useless.

Good answer. At home I do use the side plates to hold the lower in the vice but do not use the top plates as they are not needed.

On a manual mill or drill press I use the whole jig.

If anyone has questions and they do not want to post to the community at large email me at work. I try to answer PM's but I do not login everyday. My work email I answer pretty quick If I can and can be more detailed then on the phone.

How realistic do you guys think it is for someone mechanically inclined with a decent drill press to finish one of these at home?

And have it end up being good quality

Drill press for rough cuts and then clean it up with a router and a mill bit

How about normal non blems at 5% over cost for a day. That would be awesome

I'm now looking for a low cost 80 to use as my first attempt to cut one. I will be using a drill press. I have a couple good ones from GB I don't want to ruin. I didn't think of using a blem until now, since now you really gotta DIY and I found out my dad has a drill press he can give me.

Anyone have a blem, damaged, whatever 80 to sell that still needs the trigger well to be cut? I don't even care if it is otherwise ruined, if the price is right.

Vision Arms cast lowers are good for practice runs, and if you succeed you get a functional lower.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=392482276

if you don't care about creating a functional lower, get a block of delrin, acrylic, aluminum, wax, or any material that you can mill/CNC.

Awesome, thanks, although I would avoid the wax and probably the acrylic. What I'm worried about is the bit walking out or flexing.

In fact, I'm not sure, if using a drill press, would you just drill many holes and finish with a dremel, or can you use a x-y table, like a mill. I'm sure to use a mill bit, but might the head or chuck of the press deflect?

Deflection is of course going to be there. You have no control over the feed rate when using a cross slide table, especially if you use a low cost one. Unless you can produce a consistent feed rate for the material you are cutting using the right spindle speed, you're not going to get a clean cut.

I'd use acrylic/machine wax to practice.

Nathan, do you have a storefront in Deland? It's too late this year, but I was in Daytona for the 24 hours. We did a gun shop tour, but It didn't even register to me that you guys were there until I got home. I bought 2 of your lowers from Brownell's last year and I'm pleased.

I love TM when they say blems its a real blem, a mark or scratch something in the metal. Not like some other company that says "blem" and its out of spec!
Keep up the good work guys!

Non blems 80% from TM are $83, blems $73. Plus shipping from FL. That's more money; and if you're local, do it FTF.

Let's see, buy 50@$40= $2000. Sell 50@$75=$3750. Of course they could go on Gunbroker or other forum EE's. And sell for even more there; it's Kali that has shut down the AR Build parties. Doubt they even know about the ATF jihad in flyover land...

you know, that little star is pretty obvious of what youre trying to cover up. if you added it, you should have just edited as the hole filled in.
