Default Franklin Armory F17L

Anyone have one of these? Its my first and only rimfire AR variant.

I picked up one a few months ago, figured I could always just use the upper and lower on something else later. But I like the 17wsm round.

I installed a Rise trigger and the thing is a dream to shoot. Only problem I am having is last round bolt "hold open". Don't know if its a mag issue or rimfire issue.

Also, I have had some FTFs with Hornady ammo -- anyone else?

It took numerous times shipping it back to franklin to get it to run right. Ended up replacing parts. It shoots flat for sure. MAG cost is insane

OP, I'm the shop foreman for FA in Minden.

The bolt stop on the F17 series of rifles is non-functional, as you have already noticed. We install one as we use the same receivers for all of our rifles and users might, as you've noted, wish to run a different upper. A note of caution if you decide to do so; you will need to replace the buffer with a standard part and remove any spacers from under the buffer spring.

Older generation magazines had a ledge at the rear of the follower to hold the bolt open after the last round fired; we found that under extended use the steel bolt would batter through the ledge, which was part of the aluminum follower, and it is no longer used.

In this instance, your rifle is functioning correctly.

Regarding the FTFs, please feel to give us a call. We'll be happy to help determine why that might be happening.

Thanks to both for the info.

I noticed the issue RE the ledge on the mag. To be honest, for me this is more of a situation where I have to explain to the Range Officer why the bolt won't hold open -- and why its the way it is as opposed to me doing it wrong.

Regarding ammo FTFs, I have some Win to try out and compare.

drop a review after you get a couple hunts in - especially what groups it's doing.

i always wanted to get one, but the $1200 for just the upper - which is what I wanted - is kinda the deal breaker. plus the thought that we have to switch to nonlead...

honestly. its a tight shooter. squirrel sized targets at 200yds is cake.

But it still doesnt even compare to the bolt gun that goes with with this one when i shoot. My bolt my favorite for accuracy and cost half the price of the upper
