If you have never flown an RC helicopter and want to learn to be able to fly one and take pictures, you are talking about years of experience. I fly RC heli's and to be able to fly good enough to take pics is a hard path to follow.

Maybe go out to a RC field and talk to some of the pilots to get an idea of what you are hoping to achieve. It can be done be it takes a lot of flying every day, not just weekends.

As far as system setup you are talking in the thousands easily, my controller and 600 size heli will set you back at least $2000 and that is going on the cheap side. And that does not include camera, camera mount and camera control system. Batteries alone are well over $150 each and they last about 10 minutes. Plus you have to be able to fly well enough to not crash, which is not an easy thing to do. Average crash with any size heli, even if it is a soft crash will cost you in the hundreds, not counting the camera gear.

I am not trying to scare you off, just letting you know that it takes a lot of time, money, and complete dedication to fly a heli good enough to take pictures.

Just a suggestion: you can start off with AR Drone (http://ardrone2.parrot.com/)

It's controllable via Android / iPhone, have 720p camera with live feed and recording, and altitude sensor (so it hovers on the ground when you release the control).

It's cheaper and can get you starting with RC copter. Later on, you can ugprade it to fly 600ft.

PS: I can't embed video here, so I just provided the link.
