I loaded SMK 175's at 42.7 and with a 5 shot test I was getting 2620 FPS with my 26" barrel. Your barrel is 24" right? You'll lose a little velocity from what Im getting if so. Its going to be close getting to 1000. I settled at 43.8gr getting me 2675.

my load is:
BH brass
175gr. SMK
42.6gr. Varget
Fed primers
2.805" COAL (if my redding comp seating die is accurate then I should be about .015 off of the lands)

Barrel is a 24" Hart tube with a 1/10 twist and tight chamber

On JBM I put used the G7 data with sight hight 2.5" above bore (kind of guessing there) altitude of 4000 feet, temp of 70 degrees. As far as MV goes I used the data off of Hodgdon's site giving me 2604 fps (rounded down for JMB)

I used JBM's preloaded info thats part of the bullet library info, this is what they have it as: 0.485 [0-1800], 0.496 [1800-2800], 0.505 [2800-5000] G1

those are G1 BCs. Try .241 G7 for the 175 SMK and see what it says.

When i ran your numbers it looked like you were only supersonic until about 975yds

QuickLoad says you will be at 2579fps (70 degrees). Do you know your fired case capacity?

I'm not sure, all my BH brass is either loaded or has been deprimed and prepped. I do have some remington and winchester brass laying around, with the remington brass giving me a capacity of 56.1 grains of water and the winchester giving me 57.1. Those from filling the cases up completely

How are you checking the case volume? Does the usable case volume include the primer pocket too or does it only include the powder section?

See you all at the park-and-ride. Please arrive before by 7:45 as we will leave a 8 sharp. Once we all arrive we can figure what cars to jump into.

Look forward to shoot with you all.

We meet-up at a park-and-ride in Newhall and carpool out to the range.
The address is 23608 San Fernando Rd.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...h&z=16&iwloc=A
Please note that San Fernando Road has become Newhall Ave.
Online mapping and in-car navigation systems still show San Fernando Road, but the sign on the freeway now says Newhall Ave.
There are multiple park-and-rides on Newhall Ave so make sure you arrive at the correct one which is west of the 14fwy on the north side of the street.

Great time today. No broken guns (or scopes), everyone had fun, and my barrel is %10 shot out now.

Thank you for coming out everyone!

I agree, great time today. Only one hiccup was my broken case, but that was an easy fix thankfully.

I think we had 9 shooters inc. Ryan

Charlie took some pictures

The gun shoots better then the shooter. My first 3 shots of the day were inside the bullseye of my sight-in target. Take the knobs out to 1k and back to 100 and she still puts 'em dead center. I need to learn wind!!!! We had times of big gusts and then 2 minutes later it would almost die completely. 1.75 Mil hold over at 1k with the .260 during high gust periods

I think that is a great set up out there. The targets being different shapes, sizes and colors really added to the dificulty and fun. I think you guys picked a really good size for the 1000 yard target as its challenging to hit it with the wind gusting, but not so hard to hit that it makes one want to give up.

I found that with a MV of 2600 JBM was off by .1 mils, so Hodgdon's website was pretty accurate in listing MV. It really was amazing how much the wind effects the rounds out at the further distances, I'd fire one round holding 1.5 mils to the right for the wind and hit the target and then the next round would hit the dirt just to the right of the target as the wind died down a bit.
