Question How to go about "antiquing" my MPG-44 stock and grip?

I just picked up the MPG-44 .22LR and love it.

However, the one thing I am not a fan of is the wood stock and grip. They just look too darn new! Anyone know how to go about making them look more worn or period correct?

I guess one would call it giving the wood an "Antique" look?

Keep it the back of your pickup for a while.

I don't know how to antique it, but that is one tough/bad looking 22 caliber
rifle. I guess I would probably start with some very fine sandpaper and then a screwdriver to make some small wear marks.

FPS Russia might be able to help me with that but I haven't seen him since his partner got killed.

Is he laying low?

Rope and a mile down a dirt road....

Or how they 'antique' guitars, is usually with a large key ring with a lot of keys and whack it to dent it and craze the finish.

I had a nice pool stick commonly called a 'sneaky pete' which is actually a very nice quality 2 piece pool stick that **LOOKS** like a house cue.... It was way too pretty to be mistaken for an actual bar cue so I beat up the handle real good so it would blend in better. The shaft was perfect glass smooth though.

I know I did a good job when I turned my back for a second, and my stick was sitting in the bucket of house cues.....
Got real hard to keep track of my $140 stick after that though....

Heavy key ring and a belt hitting it with the buckle- goes a long way fast. Thats part of how fender guitars antiques brand new guitars as well. THough they have someone whose full time job is to beat up new guitars in a certain way with a lot more tricks than that.....

Go organic.

Shoot and use it a bunch and it will look 'antiqued' in no time and you'll know it's fo' real.

'Antiquing' it is being a phony poseur, but that's JMO.

I agree....

You've no idea how much it bugs me people pay $4-5-6k for a brand new guitar that looks well worn.... but people buy them.

found this online if you still want to do it

Throwing the chain in:
These are a few of my favorite distressing tools:
Throwing a chain at wood gives you those elliptical dents. Dragging the sharp edges of a pry bar across wood will give it some deep grooves. Finally a few random hammer marks here and there finish off the worn look.

New, it probably looks just like the original issue from the German factory in WWII. Wouldn't do a thing to it if it were mine, but hey that's just my opinion. Do what makes it right for you. That's what ownership is all about.

Using it over time will give a worn look.

Then, once it is beat and battered, you will wish you had the factory new stock again.
